Pantone™ PMS 291 U

PMS 291 U is commonly used as a brand color target for signs, displays, and exhibit components where visual alignment to Pantone standards is required. The Pantone PMS code defines the color reference, not a specific paint formula or finish.

For fabricated elements, results can vary by substrate, sheen, and lighting. If the project is high visibility or requires formal brand approval, ordering a sample and evaluating PMS 291 U on the actual material under installed lighting is recommended before committing to full production.

Whether a primer is needed for PMS 291 U depends on the paint type, the substrate, and exposure conditions. Bare metals, plastics, or porous materials often require a compatible primer to promote adhesion and consistent color appearance.

Highly saturated Pantone colors can also benefit from a primer to improve coverage and uniformity. Review the guidance for the specific product you select, and if in doubt, test PMS 291 U over the intended primer and substrate before full application.

Durability for PMS 291 U spray paint depends on surface preparation, the paint system chosen, and the environment where it will be used. The Pantone code defines the color match only, not resistance to wear, weather, or chemicals.

For displays or exhibits, select a paint type appropriate for the expected handling and exposure, and consider clear coats if additional protection is needed. Always evaluate durability on a test piece that matches the real use conditions.

The Safety Data Sheet is associated with the specific paint or coating product, not the PMS 291 U color itself. Once you choose the product format, such as spray paint or another paint type, the corresponding SDS applies regardless of the Pantone color.

You can access the SDS through the SDS library for the selected product. If you need help identifying the correct SDS for your PMS 291 U order, confirm the product type first.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
