Pantone™ PMS 235 U

Ordering PMS 235 U means you are requesting paint matched to the Pantone PMS 235 U visual color standard. Pantone PMS codes define a color target for visual consistency, not a specific paint formula, coating system, or finish.

The paint you receive is custom matched to visually align with the Pantone 235 U reference under standard viewing conditions. It is not the same as printing ink, and it is not intended to replicate Pantone coated or uncoated paper behavior. Finish, sheen, substrate, and lighting can all affect how PMS 235 U appears in real applications.

PMS 235 U can be matched in both interior and exterior paint types, but the correct choice depends on where and how the painted item will be used.

For indoor displays, exhibits, or brand elements with controlled lighting and no weather exposure, an interior paint or display-grade coating is usually appropriate. For outdoor signage, pop-ups, or installations exposed to sunlight, moisture, or temperature changes, an exterior-rated paint should be selected to support durability and color retention.

The Pantone code defines the color target only. You must still choose the paint type based on exposure and performance needs.

PMS 235 U is a vivid, highly saturated Pantone color, and colors in this range often have lower hide than neutral or muted tones.

Depending on the substrate, primer color, and application method, PMS 235 U may require additional coats to achieve uniform color and visual consistency. Using a suitable primer and planning for multiple coats helps reduce patchiness and improves the final appearance.

Testing on the actual substrate is recommended before full production, especially for large or high-visibility brand elements.

PMS 235 U can be applied to many plastic substrates, but plastics vary widely in surface energy and paint adhesion behavior.

Some plastics require specific primers or surface preparation to ensure proper adhesion and durability. Without the correct preparation, paint may peel or scratch easily, even if the color match is accurate.

Before committing to production, apply a test of the PMS 235 U paint system on the actual plastic material, including any primer, to confirm adhesion and appearance.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
