Pantone™ PMS 214 U

PMS 214 U is a Pantone color target, not a material-specific formula. When it is applied to different substrates, the surface can change how the color appears. Porous materials can absorb paint and reduce brightness, textured surfaces can scatter light, and smooth or reflective materials can make the color look more vivid.

For multi-material projects, the safest approach is to evaluate PMS 214 U on the actual materials used in the final build. This helps confirm that the appearance meets brand expectations before full production.

Start by selecting PMS 214 U as your color reference. Then choose the paint format that fits your application, such as spray paint or another available option, followed by the desired sheen and quantity.

Because Pantone PMS colors are visual standards, it is important to double-check that the format and finish you select match how the color will be used. If appearance is critical, ordering a sample first can help confirm the match before committing to larger quantities.

Yes. Changing the sheen can noticeably affect how PMS 214 U is perceived, even though the color target is the same. Glossier finishes tend to look brighter and more saturated, while matte finishes can appear softer or slightly darker.

This means a matte sample and a gloss sample of PMS 214 U can look like different colors at first glance. Always compare finishes under the same lighting conditions and choose the sheen that matches your final display or environment.

When applying a PMS 214 U match to metal, surface preparation matters. Existing coatings, especially powder coat, should be clean and properly scuffed so the new coating adheres evenly.

The underlying finish and gloss of the metal can also influence how the color appears. For brand-critical components, it is recommended to test PMS 214 U on a prepared sample part to confirm coverage, hide, and final appearance before full production.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
