Pantone™ PMS 201 U

When approving Pantone PMS 201 U, compare your painted sample to the Pantone reference under consistent lighting and on the same type of substrate. View both at the same time and angle to avoid perception shifts. Allow the coating to fully dry and cure before judging color, since sheen and saturation can change as the film settles. Avoid comparing a wet or freshly sprayed sample to a printed or coated Pantone guide.

For Pantone PMS 201 U, gloss finishes typically increase visual punch and saturation, which can help the color read stronger at a distance or under lower light. Matte finishes reduce glare and reflections, which can be helpful in brightly lit environments or close viewing. The best choice depends on how the color will be seen in its final lighting and viewing distance, so finish selection should be considered part of the approval process.

Safety and VOC characteristics depend on the specific paint product and format selected, not on the Pantone PMS 201 U color itself. Always review the Safety Data Sheet for the product you order and follow the recommended handling, ventilation, and personal protection guidance. Do not assume performance or safety characteristics based solely on the Pantone color reference.

For Pantone PMS 201 U, multiple light coats generally produce a more even and predictable appearance than one heavy coat. Allow adequate flash time between coats so solvents can escape and the color can build uniformly. Highly saturated Pantone colors can require additional passes for full hide, so evaluate coverage gradually rather than trying to achieve final color in a single application.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
