Pantone™ PMS 172 U

Pantone PMS 172 U is a color reference, not a paint product by itself. Safety, VOC content, and handling requirements depend entirely on the specific paint type you order, such as spray paint, epoxy, or urethane.

Before use, review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the exact product you purchase and follow the manufacturer guidance for ventilation, personal protective equipment, and surface preparation. Do not assume all PMS 172 U paints have the same safety profile, even though the color target is the same.

Paint matched to Pantone PMS 172 U is made to order. Production lead time depends on the product format you select and current production volume.

Because PMS colors are custom matched at the time of ordering, they do not ship the same day like off-the-shelf paints. If timing is critical for a marketing or display project, confirm lead time before ordering and allow additional time for shipping and on-site application.

Repeat orders of Pantone PMS 172 U are matched to the same Pantone reference, but small batch-to-batch variation is normal with custom color production.

To keep results as consistent as possible, reorder the same product type, sheen, and application method each time. If color approval is critical, retain a physical sample from a previous order and use it as a visual reference when evaluating future batches under the same lighting conditions.

A standard Pantone PMS 172 U match is appropriate when the Pantone reference itself is the approved color target. This is common for brand-facing applications such as displays, signage, exhibits, prototypes, and marketing installations.

If the project requires confirmation under installed lighting, involves multiple substrates, or has formal brand approval steps, ordering samples first is recommended. PMS matches are intended for visual brand accuracy, not for matching existing painted surfaces or previous coatings.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 172 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
