PMS 142 U is a Pantone PMS color commonly specified as a brand and identity reference where strong visibility and warmth are required. It presents a lively, attention-forward vibe with qualities that read as warm, energetic, bold, and approachable.
The color appears mid-light with an LRV of 54.95. It reads warm and yellow-orange in character, showing high saturation with a subtle orange undertone that adds depth and visual energy.
PMS 142 U works well in applications where visual impact and brand recognition matter more than subtlety. As a saturated warm color, it may benefit from a light or white primer to support color clarity and even coverage, especially over darker substrates. Finish choice and lighting can noticeably influence perceived brightness, so evaluating a sample under intended conditions can help avoid unexpected shifts.
The color is frequently used in brand-facing graphics, signage, and display elements where high visibility is important. It is often specified for marketing installations, exhibit components, and promotional environments that benefit from energetic color impact.

PMS 142 U is a Pantone reference color, not a paint formula. Pantone books are printed standards, while paint is applied to a substrate with a specific sheen. Differences in material, texture, and lighting mean the painted result will not look identical to the book chip.
For accurate expectations, view a painted sample of PMS 142 U on the actual material you plan to use and under the lighting where it will be installed. This is the best way to confirm visual acceptance before committing to full production.
PMS 142 U is a bright, saturated Pantone color. Colors in this range often have lower hide than neutral tones, which can make the underlying surface influence the final appearance.
Plan for additional coats to achieve uniform color, especially over dark or uneven substrates. Applying a suitable primer and allowing proper dry time between coats will improve consistency and reduce the risk of patchiness.
The correct paint type for PMS 142 U depends on your substrate, exposure conditions, and desired finish. The Pantone code defines the color target only and does not specify the coating system.
If you are unsure which format or product type to use, contact MyPerfectColor with details about the material being painted, whether it is indoors or outdoors, and the sheen you want. This information helps ensure you order a product that meets both color and performance expectations.
Proper surface preparation is essential for consistent results with PMS 142 U. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust, oils, or residues that could interfere with adhesion.
Light scuffing may be appropriate on smooth surfaces to improve bond, followed by cleaning to remove debris. Always apply a small test area first to confirm adhesion, coverage, and visual appearance before proceeding with the full application.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 142 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
