PMS 112 U is a Pantone PMS color used as a standardized brand and specification reference rather than a paint formula. It presents as a rich, warm yellow with amber undertones, conveying solidity, warmth, and a grounded visual character rather than brightness or lightness.

The color appears relatively dark for a yellow, with an LRV of 22.94. It leans warm with a yellow-orange tendency and shows moderate-to-high saturation, giving it a dense, substantial appearance. Subtle brown or amber undertones help reduce glare and add visual weight.

This color works well on smooth, well-prepared surfaces where even film build can support its depth and saturation. Because it is a darker, saturated yellow, coverage may benefit from a light or tinted primer to reduce contrast and help achieve uniform appearance. Finish choice and lighting can noticeably influence how warm or muted the color appears, so evaluating a painted sample under intended lighting is recommended.

PMS 112 U is often specified in brand standards where a warm yellow is intended to feel established rather than playful. It is commonly used on signage, display elements, and branded fixtures that require a grounded yellow tone.

Similar colors:
PMS 111 U: slightly darker and browner, with more muted yellow intensity.
PMS 113 U: lighter and more open, with increased yellow brightness.
PMS 123 U: brighter and more saturated, with reduced earthiness.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 112 U

What should I expect when reordering PMS 112 U and how can I keep results consistent?

PMS 112 U is a Pantone PMS reference, not a fixed paint formula. Each order is matched visually to the Pantone standard, so small variation can occur between batches.

To keep results consistent, reorder the same product type and sheen each time, and avoid switching formats mid project. If your project has formal brand approval, approve a physical sample and keep it as the reference target for future runs. Changing substrate, gloss, or application method can change how PMS 112 U appears even if the color match process is the same.

How can I maintain uniform color when applying PMS 112 U over a large area?

When PMS 112 U is applied across larger surfaces, uniform appearance depends more on application control than the color code itself.

Plan full, even coats and maintain consistent spray distance and overlap. Avoid stopping and restarting in visible areas, as this can create patchiness or banding. Highly saturated Pantone colors may need additional coats to achieve even hide, so allow proper flash time between coats and evaluate coverage under consistent lighting before considering the job complete.

Does the suffix in PMS 112 U matter when ordering this color?

Yes. The suffix in PMS 112 U is part of the Pantone reference and identifies the specific Pantone standard the color is matched to.

Brand guidelines may specify a particular PMS code and suffix, and using a different reference can lead to a noticeable visual difference. Before ordering, confirm that PMS 112 U is the exact code listed in your brand documentation rather than a similar number or alternate Pantone series.

What should I consider before applying PMS 112 U to metal or over existing powder coat?

When applying PMS 112 U to metal or over a powder-coated surface, preparation and surface condition strongly affect the final appearance.

Clean and scuff the surface so the new coating adheres evenly. Existing powder coat color and gloss level can influence how PMS 112 U reads once applied. Because of this, it is best to test the color on a prepared sample part before committing to a full run, especially for brand-facing or high-visibility components.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 112 U?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 112 U depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 112 U for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 112 U to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 112 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
