PMS 102 U is a Pantone Matching System color used as a reference standard for consistent color communication across vendors and materials. It conveys a bright, energetic, attention-commanding yellow with a clean, contemporary feel suited to brand-forward environments.
The color appears very light, with an LRV of 78.51, and reads as slightly warm with a subtle green-leaning yellow cast. It shows very high saturation and strong chroma, producing strong visual intensity with minimal visible undertone beyond its dominant yellow character.
PMS 102 U works well on smooth, well-prepared surfaces where brightness and uniformity are critical. Due to its high saturation and lightness, it often benefits from a white or light-tinted primer and multiple thin coats to achieve even coverage, especially over darker substrates.
Similar colors:
PMS 101 U: lighter and slightly softer, with reduced saturation.
PMS 103 U: deeper and warmer, with more visual weight.
PMS 7405 U: more muted and slightly cooler, with less brightness.

PMS 102 U is a specific Pantone Matching System code. The number identifies the color target, and the U suffix indicates the uncoated reference standard used by Pantone. Ordering by the exact code, including the U suffix, is critical because PMS 102 has different appearances depending on whether it is referenced as coated or uncoated.
The Pantone code is a communication standard, not a paint formula. When you order PMS 102 U paint, the goal is to visually match the Pantone reference as closely as possible. Using only a color name without the full code increases the risk of receiving the wrong target.
Pantone PMS 102 U is the full, specific color identifier. The number 102 defines the color target, and the U suffix means it is referenced from the uncoated Pantone guide. When ordering paint matched to PMS 102 U, always include the complete code with the suffix. Ordering by name alone or leaving off the U can result in a different color reference and a visibly different outcome.
Pantone PMS codes are color communication standards, not paint formulas. The accuracy of the result depends on starting with the correct code.
Yes. Paint matched to PMS 102 U is custom made to order based on the Pantone reference. Because it is produced specifically for your order, it is important to confirm the product format and finish before purchasing.
Highly saturated Pantone colors like PMS 102 U can be sensitive to finish, substrate, and lighting. If the application is high visibility or requires brand approval, ordering a sample first helps confirm appearance before committing to a larger quantity.

PMS 102 U is part of the Pantone PMS system, which is used to create consistent brand experiences across marketing, displays, and environments. Brands specify PMS colors so that different vendors can reproduce a recognizable color target with minimal ambiguity.
In practice, PMS 102 U may be used on signage, exhibit components, prototypes, or branded installations where visual consistency matters more than matching an existing painted surface.
Pantone PMS 102 U is a Pantone brand color intended to create consistent visual identity across marketing materials, displays, and branded environments. It provides a shared color reference so different vendors and materials can aim for the same visual target.
Because PMS colors are about visual consistency rather than material repair matching, they are best used where brand appearance and recognition are the primary goals.
The finish you choose can noticeably change how PMS 102 U appears. Gloss finishes tend to increase perceived brightness and saturation, which can make vivid yellows feel more energetic but may introduce glare under strong lighting.
Matte finishes reduce glare and can look more controlled at close viewing distances, but they may appear slightly less punchy. Consider the lighting, viewing distance, and brand intent when selecting the finish for PMS 102 U.
The choice between matte and gloss affects how PMS 102 U is perceived. Matte finishes reduce glare and can look more controlled under bright lighting, while glossier finishes increase saturation and visual punch.
Viewing distance, lighting conditions, and the role of the painted surface in the overall brand experience should guide the decision. For critical brand colors like PMS 102 U, testing the finish in the intended environment is recommended.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 102 U in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
