PMS 7654 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color from the Pantone PMS collection. This color exhibits a calm, professional, and contemporary vibe with a controlled vibrancy and a muted, businesslike character. It is often described as a subdued violet or plum, offering a cooler, composed appearance suitable for branding or display applications requiring visual interest without excessive saturation.

PMS 7654 C registers as mid-dark in value, with a measured LRV of 23.52. The color has a distinctly cool tendency, guided by its purple hue and underlying blue-violet base. The saturation level is moderate, delivering noticeable color presence while remaining muted rather than vivid or highly chromatic. The undertone is subtle and leans towards blue, with a quiet grayed quality that softens the intensity and shifts the color away from bright magenta or lavender. Selection of gloss or matte finish can influence perceptual depth; higher-gloss finishes may amplify the richness, while matte treatments further mute the tone.

PMS 7654 C is operationally effective when a brand or display requires a clearly purple tone that avoids the brightness of more saturated violets and magentas. This color can function as a sophisticated accent or a main field color where muted formality is desired. When assessing for application, test in the actual project lighting, as cool and muted purples can appear more drab or shadowed in low-light or warm-light conditions. PMS 7654 C covers more evenly than more highly saturated purples but may still require careful surface preparation to avoid uneven patches. Relative to similar muted purples, PMS 7654 C presents a slightly stronger blue note and fuller depth.

PMS 7655 C — Very close but a touch warmer and marginally more vivid.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7654 C

How do I make sure I am ordering the correct color if my project requires Pantone PMS 7654 C?

When ordering PMS 7654 C, confirm the full color reference according to your brand standards or project documentation. Pantone PMS codes may include suffixes or vary between coated, uncoated, or matte versions. Always refer to your exact required code, as small differences like the 'C' for coated can affect the result. If you are uncertain whether PMS 7654 C is the right standard, check with your brand manager or project lead before purchasing. This helps prevent ordering a product that may not meet project specifications.

What should I consider when using PMS 7654 C paint on metal or powder-coated surfaces?

If you plan to apply PMS 7654 C to metal or powder-coated parts, proper preparation is important for brand-consistent color. Clean and scuff the existing surface to help adhesion and evenness. Be aware that previous coatings and gloss levels can affect how the PMS 7654 C color appears once applied. For best results, evaluate a sample on your actual substrate and finish before full production to ensure that the color meets your project needs in real-world conditions.

How is Pantone PMS 7654 C typically used in sign, display, or exhibit fabrication?

Pantone PMS 7654 C is often specified in brand guidelines for signs, displays, and exhibit components where visual accuracy matters. Using a standardized Pantone target like PMS 7654 C helps ensure consistent color across multiple elements and vendors. Because material and lighting can influence the final appearance, it is wise to sample the color on actual substrates under project lighting before committing to large-scale fabrication. This approach helps verify that PMS 7654 C matches brand expectations in your specific application.

Does PMS 7654 C require multiple coats or a specific undercoat for best coverage?

PMS 7654 C is a muted, mid-dark purple and generally covers more evenly than highly saturated tones, but project results will depend on surface color and finish. For maximum uniformity, especially over contrasting or unprimed surfaces, consider using a tinted undercoat or applying extra coats as needed. Test coverage on your substrate to determine the best approach. This helps avoid unevenness and achieves the most consistent brand color in your final application.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7654 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
