PMS 2420 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System), widely used for specifying brand and marketing colors across industries such as display fabrication and industrial design. This color is vibrant, bold, energetic, and contemporary, delivering high visibility and a striking effect on both physical and digital media. Its appearance is characterized by a highly saturated hue with a noticeable cool, green-blue cast.

PMS 2420 C registers at a mid-level lightness, with a moderate reflectance value. The color displays a clear cool tendency, situating visually between blue and green on the color wheel. PMS 2420 C exhibits very high saturation and chroma, contributing to its vivid, intense appearance. The undertone is strongly greenish, giving the color a modern and dynamic edge. The color’s brightness and saturation may appear intensified or dulled depending on the finish; gloss finishes can make the color pop, while matte finishes may mute its intensity.

PMS 2420 C is often selected when visual prominence and unambiguous color identity are required, particularly in branded environments, experiential marketing, and prototype fabrication. Precision in color matching should be confirmed under the intended lighting and finish, as saturated hues like this can shift in perception based on surface reflectance and viewing conditions. Coverage can sometimes require multiple coats due to the high chroma, and surfaces should be properly primed to ensure uniform color expression across materials.

Similar colors:
PMS 339 C offers a visually lighter and slightly less saturated greenish-blue, resulting in a softer presence.

PMS 3252 C is cooler and less intense, with a subtle blue dominance compared to 2420 C’s green undertone.

PMS 3255 C provides a color that is less chromatic and appears closer to a conventional teal, delivering a more subdued effect.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2420 C

How challenging is it to achieve an accurate match to Pantone PMS 2420 C, and what should I expect when ordering this color as paint?

Matching Pantone PMS 2420 C can be more challenging than less saturated colors because it is a bold, highly chromatic greenish-blue. Vivid hues like this are sensitive to finish, application technique, lighting, and substrate. While MyPerfectColor formulates colors specifically to meet Pantone standards, some variation in appearance may occur depending on the material and finish used. For brand-critical applications, confirm the appearance under your intended lighting conditions and finish before final approval.

Do I need to use a primer when applying Pantone PMS 2420 C paint?

For Pantone PMS 2420 C, using a primer is recommended on most substrates to ensure proper adhesion and to help achieve a uniform color. The highly saturated nature of PMS 2420 C may also require a primer, especially on porous or uneven surfaces, to improve coverage and the final appearance. Specific primer needs depend on your substrate and paint type, so review the paint product details or consult a surface preparation guide to select the best primer for your project.

What is the best way to compare Pantone PMS 2420 C samples for brand approval?

To accurately compare Pantone PMS 2420 C samples during the approval process, always view samples under the intended lighting and on the same type of substrate that will be used in your project. Make sure the coating is fully dry or cured before judging the match, as wet paint or uncured finishes may appear different from the final result. Consistency in these conditions helps ensure the color meets your brand standards as seen in the final environment.

How much area will one spray can of Pantone PMS 2420 C typically cover and how should I estimate quantity?

One spray can of Pantone PMS 2420 C usually covers about 20 square feet per coat on a smooth, primed surface. Because this color is highly saturated, multiple coats may be required for full uniformity, especially over non-white bases or rough textures. To estimate quantity, calculate the total surface area and multiply by the expected number of coats to ensure you order enough paint for consistent brand color across all areas.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 2420 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 2420 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 2420 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How much area will one spray can cover? And what is Pantone PMS 2420 C spray paint made of?

How do I convert PMS 2420 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2420 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
