PMS 2396 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, used for specifying exact color targets in brand and design contexts. The color is bold, clean, technical, and distinctive with a strong cool undertone. Visually, it provides a striking chromatic presence that is neither muted nor neutral, making it operationally valuable where brand differentiation and visual impact are priorities.

PMS 2396 C appears moderately dark, with a numeric Light Reflectance Value of 25.99. The color presents a distinctly cool hue, with perceptible blue-violet tendencies. The chroma is high, resulting in a strong, saturated appearance. The undertone leans clearly toward blue, with a noticeable hint of violet in certain lighting. This color can show increased intensity or depth depending on finish, with glossier surfaces amplifying vibrancy.

PMS 2396 C works well in environments where bold, highly visible brand elements are required, including signage, fixtures, and event displays. In application, verify appearance using a physical Pantone reference and a painted sample under project lighting, as finish (gloss/matte) and substrate can affect perception of depth and chroma. Unlike less vivid options, this hue may be more sensitive to uneven application or surface preparation, potentially requiring ground coats for even coverage. When compared to similar colors, PMS 2396 C reads as cooler and more saturated, retaining higher chromatic intensity under most lighting.

Similar colors:
PMS 661 C: A similar blue but appears slightly lighter and less chromatic.

PMS 2747 C: Darker and deeper, with a more pronounced violet tone.

PMS 286 C: Warmer and more neutral, lacking the violet edge of PMS 2396 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2396 C

What does it mean to order Pantone PMS 2396 C as a paint color?

When you order Pantone PMS 2396 C as a paint color, you are requesting a custom color match to the standardized Pantone PMS 2396 C target as seen in a Pantone guide or reference. This is a visual target, not a specific paint formula or manufacturing process. The final color appearance can be influenced by the type of coating, finish, substrate, and lighting. Always verify the result against a physical Pantone reference before full-scale production for projects where accuracy is critical.

When should I sample PMS 2396 C before moving to full production?

Sampling PMS 2396 C is strongly recommended for high-visibility branding projects, large installations, or any application where the painted color will be viewed under specific lighting or on unique substrates. Sampling helps you verify that the match meets your expectations for color consistency and visual impact. This process can reveal how finish, lighting, or surface preparation affect the final result before committing to full production quantities.

How does surface texture affect the appearance of PMS 2396 C paint?

Surface texture can significantly alter how PMS 2396 C appears when applied. Rough or matte textures tend to diffuse light, making the color look less saturated or even slightly lighter. Smooth or glossier surfaces reflect more light, often making PMS 2396 C appear deeper and more vibrant. The same paint may show perceptual differences in hue and intensity depending on how light interacts with the coated surface, so always review actual samples in your intended environment if precise color appearance is required.

What product formats are available for Pantone PMS 2396 C paint, and how do I choose?

Pantone PMS 2396 C can be made in formats such as custom spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and select other coatings. Your choice depends on the application: spray paint is suited for panels or displays requiring an even, vivid finish, paint pens are practical for precision branding details, and brush-in-cap bottles work for small components or mockups. Consider substrate, project size, and required finish when selecting a format to ensure the best visual match for your brand requirements.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 2396 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 2396 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 2396 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 2396 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2396 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
