PMS 2132 C from the Pantone PMS System is a deep, highly saturated magenta with distinctly cool undertones. The color’s vibe is vivid, attention-getting, assertive, contemporary, and technical. It is designed for applications where brand visibility and color consistency are operational goals, particularly in contexts that demand strong visual differentiation.

PMS 2132 C appears dark, with a low light reflectance value (LRV 10.81), resulting in a low level of inherent brightness. The color exhibits a cool tendency, driven by blue and violet undertones. Magenta saturation is high, producing a strong, impactful character. The color presents an unmistakably bluish undertone rather than a warm, reddish base. PMS 2132 C can be sensitive to gloss and finish, with higher sheens emphasizing its vibrancy. Visibility and perceived chroma may shift significantly under varying lighting, especially under cool LED or daylight sources.

PMS 2132 C works well in branded environments, marketing displays, and components where a deep, energized magenta is specified for visual emphasis. For best results, assess samples under final lighting conditions and finish, as this color’s deep, saturated nature can shift in appearance depending on substrate and sheen. Surface preparation is important—rich magentas often have reduced opacity, potentially requiring more coats or a colored primer for uniform coverage. PMS 2132 C offers greater impact and a cooler profile than many similar hues, standing out effectively without veering toward red.

Similar colors:
PMS 2140 C – Slightly lighter and more vibrant, with a higher chroma for increased visual intensity.

PMS 2415 C – Warmer and more purple, lacking the distinctly cool bluish undertone of PMS 2132 C.

PMS 241 C – Lighter and more muted, offering a softer magenta with reduced saturation compared to PMS 2132 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2132 C

How does the finish or sheen affect how Pantone PMS 2132 C appears in brand and display projects?

The finish you choose for Pantone PMS 2132 C has a direct impact on how the color looks in real-world use. A high-gloss finish will heighten the vibrancy and make the cool magenta appear deeper and more saturated, which can enhance visual impact for branded displays. Satin finishes offer a compromise, maintaining clarity with reduced glare. Matte finishes tend to mute both the depth and saturation, resulting in a softer or less intense look. Before finalizing, test PMS 2132 C samples in your intended finish under project lighting to confirm that the color appears as needed for your brand objectives.

When is it appropriate to order a standard Pantone PMS 2132 C match for marketing or display use?

Ordering a standard Pantone PMS 2132 C match is appropriate when your primary goal is to achieve consistent, brand-aligned color across marketing displays, exhibit components, prototypes, or temporary branded environments. This is the correct approach for most brand-facing applications where the Pantone reference itself is the target, rather than matching a prior coating or material. For permanent, high-visibility retail or multi-material projects that require exact appearance verification, consider evaluation with physical samples before full application.

What should I consider when using Pantone PMS 2132 C for prototypes or concept models?

When specifying Pantone PMS 2132 C for prototypes or concept models, select paint formats that suit your model scale and evaluation process, such as spray paint or paint pens for small parts. Because saturated magentas like PMS 2132 C may have reduced coverage, plan for extra coats or use a tinted primer to ensure uniform color. Always view prototypes under intended display lighting and in the same sheen as the target application to confirm accurate brand alignment before moving to production.

How can I maintain a uniform appearance when applying Pantone PMS 2132 C over a large area?

To achieve uniform results with Pantone PMS 2132 C over large surfaces, use consistent application methods and plan your coats strategically. Saturated colors can reveal patchiness if coverage is uneven, so apply thin, even coats and allow full drying between layers. Using a colored primer close to the final shade can enhance hide and coverage. Avoid stopping mid-panel or touching up sections, as even small changes in application or substrate can affect the look. Evaluate the finish under project lighting to spot potential inconsistencies before finalizing.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2132 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
