A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26255 reads as a medium-dark cool gray with a slight blue-green lean and very low chroma. It is restrained rather than colorful, and the moderate depth helps it sit a little darker than a pale neutral without becoming fully charcoal.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in this reference is well suited to spray touch-up on equipment panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, cabinets, carts, vent covers, and fabricated support parts. It is also a practical choice for color-coding hardware, prototype assemblies, training pieces, and restoration work where the government color standard is the target rather than an aged existing finish.
Because the color is quiet and low-chroma, the main match risks are usually finish, surface texture, and film build rather than strong hue shift. On older parts, a correct standard match can still look different if the surrounding coating has weathered, polished, or changed gloss. Darker substrates and uneven prep can also make the applied color read slightly deeper until coverage is fully built.
This is MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected Fed Standard or AMS-STD-595 color reference, not an official government coating system. If the part is acceptance-critical or needs to match a weathered neighboring surface, a project-specific sample or existing-part comparison is often more useful than the code alone.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors
The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 26255 *
What does US Government Fed Std 595C 26255 specify, and what do I still need to choose for my project?
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26255 is a color reference target. It identifies the color you want to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion system, or any formal approval requirement. MyPerfectColor supplies paint matched to the selected government color standard, and you still need to choose the product format and coating system that fit your application.
Will US Government Fed Std 595C 26255 match an older coated part during touch-up work?
It may match the standard reference, but an aged in-service coating can still look different because of weathering, fade, sheen change, texture, contamination, or a different original coating system. If the repair is next to an older finish, a standard-code match may be close but not identical. For visible or acceptance-critical repairs, it is often better to test a sample or match the existing part condition rather than rely on the code alone.
How should I plan dry time and recoat timing for US Government Fed Std 595C 26255?
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different milestones, and the correct timing depends on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order for Fed Std 595C 26255. Use the product instructions for the selected spray paint, touch-up paint, or other format, and account for substrate, temperature, humidity, and film build. If your project needs multiple coats or a topcoat, plan the full sequence before you start.
Can I order MyPerfectColor paint matched to US Government Fed Std 595C 26255 in spray paint or touch-up form?
Yes. A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26255 is a color reference that MyPerfectColor can match in available product formats such as custom spray paint, touch-up paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and other options where offered. The order is a match to the specified government color standard, not an official government-issued coating system.
Why can US Government Fed Std 595C 26255 look different after application?
The color code is only part of the visual result. Gloss level, matte or satin finish, surface texture, film build, substrate, and application method can all change how Fed Std 595C 26255 appears after it dries. If the finish matters to the project, choose the right sheen and test on a sample area before painting the full part.
