PMS Black 2 C is part of the Pantone PMS System, a recognized standard for color consistency across print and branded environments. This color is characterized by a distinctly cool black appearance with a subdued, technical, and understated vibe. Its hue angle is in the yellow-green range, contributing to an overall deep charcoal look, and the chroma indicates subtle color complexity. PMS Black 2 C is frequently chosen for branded graphics, display fabrication, and environments where a softer or custom black is preferred over neutral or pure blacks.
- PMS Black 2 C appears distinctly dark, bordering on a deep charcoal rather than a pure, jet black.
- The color is notably cool-toned, with subtle green undertones visible under some lighting conditions.
- PMS Black 2 C has low to moderate chroma for a black, introducing subtle complexity to the base.
- The undertone can result in a slightly murky or olive cast compared to more neutral blacks, especially in low-gloss finishes.
- The color is sensitive to gloss level; higher-gloss sheens will emphasize the subtle undertone while matte finishes may mute its complexity.
PMS Black 2 C works well for design projects where a deep, cool black is specified, and where a pure, neutral black may appear too stark. It is important to review the color under intended lighting and finish, as undertones become more apparent in different gloss levels and illumination types. Compared to standard blacks, PMS Black 2 C may read as less harsh due to its muted undertone, so previewing a physical sample on the target substrate is recommended before final specification.

When evaluating PMS Black 2 C samples for approval, always compare them under the same lighting conditions and on the same substrate as the final application. Allow all painted samples to fully dry and cure before making your judgment. PMS Black 2 C can appear differently depending on gloss and lighting, so consistent viewing conditions help prevent misjudgment of undertones or coverage.
PMS Black 2 C is a deep, cool black that may require more than one coat for full coverage, especially over light or contrasting surfaces. Using a similar-toned undercoat, such as a medium gray, can help improve coverage and minimize the number of topcoats needed. Always test on your actual substrate to confirm hide and appearance before full rollout.
Ordering PMS Black 2 C means you are requesting a custom paint matched as closely as possible to the Pantone PMS Black 2 C color target. Pantone PMS codes define a visual standard, not an exact paint formula, finish, or application process. Always review a physical sample on your chosen substrate to confirm the color meets your expectations before proceeding at scale.
If you are unsure which paint type or format is best for your PMS Black 2 C project, contact MyPerfectColor with details about your substrate, exposure conditions, and finish goals. This will help ensure you select a product that delivers the appearance and durability needed for brand-facing environments.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS Black 2 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
