PMS 8620 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, a standardized reference for brand and identity specification. The color has a distinctly metallic gold appearance with a muted, industrial character, and a moderate level of reflectivity. Its overall vibe is technical, sophisticated, authoritative, and bold without being flashy.

PMS 8620 C appears as a medium-dark gold, with an LRV of 13.84, indicating relatively low reflectance. The color presents warm undertones, with a yellow-gold bias. This color shows moderate chroma, giving it visible saturation without being extremely vibrant. The hue is situated in the yellow range, contributing to its recognizable gold visual identity. As a metallic, PMS 8620 C’s apparent brightness and depth are highly sensitive to lighting angle and finish. Surfaces painted with this color may reveal subtle metallic flecking, especially in higher-gloss formats.

PMS 8620 C is operationally useful where a metallic gold finish is specified for brand, retail, or exhibit elements requiring color fidelity with Pantone targets. Evaluate appearance on a physical paint sample in project-relevant lighting, as metallics can shift in perceived richness and brightness with angle, gloss, and substrate. Compared to similar metallic golds, PMS 8620 C is less yellow than many bright golds and less orange than deeper brass-like alternatives; its moderate chroma supports clear visibility without excessive reflectance. Surface preparation is critical, as metallic finishes can emphasize substrate imperfections.

Similar colors:
PMS 871 C: Slightly brighter and more yellow, commonly cited as a standard metallic gold for many branding applications.

PMS 8383 C: Exhibits a warmer, more saturated gold effect and a deeper, richer gold tone.

PMS 8621 C: Displays a darker, more muted metallic gold appearance, with less yellow intensity and greater visual weight.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 8620 C

What should I know about coverage and number of coats when using Pantone PMS 8620 C metallic gold paint?

Pantone PMS 8620 C is a metallic gold color with moderate saturation, which means it can require more coats than standard non-metallic paints, especially for uniform coverage and color consistency. Metallic finishes like PMS 8620 C may appear patchy if the substrate color is not uniform or if coverage is thin. For best results, use a similar colored primer and apply multiple thin coats, carefully checking your finish under project-relevant lighting conditions. Surface preparation is especially important, as metallics emphasize surface irregularities. Testing a sample first helps you assess hide, coverage, and appearance before full application.

How does sheen affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 8620 C, and how do I choose the right finish?

Pantone PMS 8620 C is a metallic gold that shows noticeable changes in appearance based on sheen and lighting. Higher-gloss finishes can enhance the metallic effect and make the gold appear brighter and more reflective, while lower-gloss or matte finishes mute these effects, producing a subtler metallic look. For brand or display projects, choose the sheen based on viewing distance, lighting, and the nature of the substrate. Always evaluate a sample in project lighting before finalizing your order, and be aware that the same color can look different in flat versus glossy finishes.

How can I ensure color consistency for Pantone PMS 8620 C if I reorder or do multiple production runs?

To maintain consistent results with Pantone PMS 8620 C across orders, always specify the same product type, sheen, and application method for all runs. For critical brand projects, use a physical sample or approved reference target to evaluate each batch under intended lighting conditions. Minor visual variation is normal between production lots, especially with metallic finishes, so stick to one supplier and lock in all variables. If you need exact visual alignment over time, consider ordering enough material for your full project at once or approving a production sample in advance.

Can Pantone PMS 8620 C be expedited if my project has a tight deadline?

Can I use the Pantone PMS 8620 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 8620 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 8620 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
