PMS 8601 C is a Pantone PMS metallic color, designed for high-impact branding and display applications. The color is dark, rich, and metallic with a bronze-gold appearance, embodying practical attributes such as boldness, seriousness, sophistication, and technical appeal. Its low LRV (6.65) indicates it is visually heavy and presents a strong visual presence, especially when paired with lighter or more chromatic companion tones.
PMS 8601 C appears dark, reflecting its low light reflectance (LRV 6.65). The color shows a distinctly warm tone due to its bronze-gold hue. PMS 8601 C exhibits moderate saturation, tempered by its metallic finish. The undertone is warm with visible copper and gold influences. The metallic nature of this color makes it highly sensitive to finish; the sheen or gloss level dramatically affects visual perception.
PMS 8601 C is most effective for applications where deep metallic presence or a sense of exclusive sophistication is needed, such as signage, exhibit elements, or branded hardware. Consider lighting carefully, as metallic colors often shift dramatically in appearance under different light sources and angles. Performance may vary with the substrate and finish; surfaces should be uniformly prepared to avoid highlighting imperfections, and high-gloss or metallic finishes will enhance reflectivity. PMS 8601 C presents a significantly darker profile compared to many metallic golds, offering greater contrast against lighter backgrounds.
Similar colors:
PMS 871 C: Similar metallic gold but lighter and slightly warmer in tone.
PMS 8621 C: Offers a more muted, less chromatic metallic gold, appearing more subdued.
PMS 876 C: Shows a copperier metallic appearance with stronger reddish undertones for additional warmth.

When using PMS 8601 C for prototypes or concept models, select the paint format that best matches your intended application, such as spray paint for broad coverage or paint pens for detailed areas. Apply the color to test panels or concept parts under the actual lighting conditions where the final design will be viewed. Evaluate both color and finish, since PMS 8601 C is metallic and will look different based on substrate and gloss level. Involve brand stakeholders early and document feedback before moving to production runs. This stepwise approach helps ensure your prototype accurately reflects the brand color intent.
For PMS 8601 C, which is a metallic finish, achieve best results by applying several light coats of spray paint rather than one heavy coat. Allow each coat to dry until it is tack-free before applying the next. This improves the evenness of the metallic effect and reduces the risk of runs or uneven coverage. Multiple thin coats are especially important with metallics like PMS 8601 C to help achieve the intended color depth and professional visual result.
Yes, the suffix 'C' in PMS 8601 C specifies the reference standard for this Pantone color, in this case the coated (glossy) version. To ensure you are ordering the correct product for your brand or display project, always confirm the exact Pantone code and suffix from your brand guidelines or project documentation. Using the wrong suffix could result in a color or finish that is not brand-accurate.
The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for PMS 8601 C is determined by the paint product type, not the color code. Once you select the specific paint format for PMS 8601 C, access the corresponding SDS in the SDS library for that product. This ensures you have the correct safety and handling information for the material you will use in your project.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 8601 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
