PMS 8283 C, part of the Pantone Matching System, is recognized for its metallic finish and its complex, restrained teal-green hue. This color projects an industrial, contemporary, and understated vibe, visually balancing coolness with subtle vibrancy. It is primarily specified for branding, display fabrication, and marketing environments where a metallic effect is desired and color consistency is critical.

PMS 8283 C appears as a medium-dark color (LRV 27.03), providing moderate visual weight. The color exhibits a cool tendency, suggesting a blue-green base. Saturation is moderate; the metallic effect tempers the chroma for a more sophisticated appearance. The undertone is a muted teal-green, with noticeable blue influence. The metallic finish is integral to the color’s character and will influence its final perceived brightness and chroma; surface preparation and finish selection are critical for achieving the intended effect.

PMS 8283 C is often specified for metallic accent elements in branding environments, such as signage, architectural details, or displays.

PMS 8283 C is suitable for projects where a controlled, sophisticated metallic hue is required and visual brand alignment matters. Evaluate this color under intended lighting, as both metallicity and environmental conditions can significantly affect its appearance. For best results, apply over a smooth, properly prepared surface to avoid visible flaws, as metallic finishes are sensitive to surface irregularities. The color can appear more vibrant or subdued depending on gloss level and viewing angle, so review samples in the intended finish before final specification.

PMS 8284 C: Darker and more neutral, reducing blue-green vibrancy for a more industrial tone.

PMS 8202 C: Slightly warmer, leaning closer to a metallic green rather than a teal.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 8283 C

How can lighting and viewing conditions affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 8283 C in my branding environment?

Pantone PMS 8283 C is a metallic teal-green that can look noticeably different under various lighting types, such as daylight, fluorescent, or LED. The metallic effect means perceived brightness, color balance, and vibrancy will shift depending on the light source and angle of view. Always review PMS 8283 C samples in the actual lighting and setting where the final application will be displayed to confirm the color meets your brand needs.

When should I order a sample of PMS 8283 C before full production for my brand project?

Sampling PMS 8283 C is highly recommended for large or high-visibility installations, permanent brand displays, or situations where approval is needed under specific lighting. Metallic finishes like PMS 8283 C are especially sensitive to factors such as lighting, substrate, and surface prep. A sample allows you to confirm the metallic effect and brand alignment before committing to a full project order.

What should I expect regarding durability when using Pantone PMS 8283 C as a spray paint for branding and display applications?

The durability of PMS 8283 C spray paint depends on the paint type selected, substrate preparation, and environmental conditions. For best results, ensure the surface is clean, smooth, and properly primed. If the application will face frequent handling, weather, or UV exposure, consider a compatible clear topcoat and select a paint type rated for those conditions. Discuss your project's needs to identify the appropriate paint formulation for PMS 8283 C.

What should I consider when applying PMS 8283 C to metal or over powder-coated parts?

Before painting metal or powder-coated parts with PMS 8283 C, thoroughly scuff and clean the surface to ensure good adhesion. Existing coatings, texture, and gloss level can significantly alter how PMS 8283 C appears, especially due to its metallic finish. It is important to sample on your actual substrate and finish whenever brand appearance is critical, so you can confirm the color and effect under your display conditions.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 8283 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
