PMS 809 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, a system widely used for standardized color specification in branding, marketing, and display fabrication. The color presents a striking, highly visible neon yellow-green, characterized by a vivid, energetic, technical, and attention-demanding vibe. Often utilized in professional contexts where unmistakable color identification and visual separation are mission-critical, this color’s extreme brightness and saturation distinguish it from conventional greens or yellows.

PMS 809 C appears highly luminous and vivid, supporting strong daylight visibility. The color displays a cool, green-leaning yellow base with prominent fluorescent chroma. It has a high light reflectance value (LRV 72.07), resulting in a bright and conspicuous appearance. Saturation is exceptionally high, with a fluorescent pigmentation that reads as both modern and technical. The color can exhibit finish sensitivity; gloss finishes will amplify vibrancy, while matte finishes may slightly dull the fluorescence. Substrate and surface preparation are important due to the challenging coverage typical of highly saturated and fluorescent hues.

PMS 809 C is frequently specified in signage and wayfinding systems to support visibility and quick recognition. This color is used in marketing activations and displays demanding immediate eye-catching effect, often under daylight or exhibition lighting. The color is favored in environments where clear prominence and visual safety are operationally important, such as temporary event structures or branded pop-ups.

PMS 809 C is most effective when maximum attention and vivid color presence are essential, such as in promotional installations or directional signage. It should be evaluated under the final lighting and finish to ensure that the fluorescent impact is maintained. When using this color, expect a higher number of coats for coverage, especially over dark or absorbent substrates—application over a white basecoat is highly recommended for consistency. Relative to other bright colors, PMS 809 C’s intense fluorescence makes it less forgiving of inconsistent application or surface imperfections.

Similar colors:
PMS 803 C: Lighter and slightly more yellow, with slightly higher perceived brightness and less green undertone.

PMS 802 C: Darker and more overtly green, producing a cooler, less neon effect.

PMS 3975 C: Less saturated, with an earthier yellow-green cast, lacking the fluorescent intensity of PMS 809 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 809 C

How does changing sheen affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 809 C?

Changing the sheen of Pantone PMS 809 C can make the color appear noticeably different, even when the color formula is the same. Glossy finishes will make PMS 809 C look more vibrant, saturated, and bright, amplifying its fluorescent effect. Matte or flat finishes may slightly dull the perceived fluorescence and brightness, sometimes resulting in a less intense or slightly muddier look. For brand-critical applications, always compare samples in the final sheen and lighting environment to confirm that the color meets expectations.

What are the steps to order paint in Pantone PMS 809 C on MyPerfectColor?

To order paint matched to Pantone PMS 809 C, first select the desired paint type (such as spray paint, paint pen, or housepaint) from the available options. Next, choose the sheen that matches your project requirements, as this affects the appearance. Pick the quantity you need and review any additional selections or information needed for your application. Before placing your order, confirm the details are correct and that you have selected the appropriate product for the intended use and environment.

How does surface texture impact the look of Pantone PMS 809 C?

The surface texture under Pantone PMS 809 C will affect how the color is seen. Smooth surfaces generally reflect light evenly, making PMS 809 C appear brighter and more uniform. Rough or textured substrates can scatter light, create shadows, and may make the color look darker, less saturated, or inconsistent. This is especially important with fluorescent colors, as texture can reduce perceived vibrancy. For the most accurate and brand-consistent results, test the color on the actual substrate and finish before final application.

How do I select the right paint type for Pantone PMS 809 C for interior vs exterior applications?

When ordering Pantone PMS 809 C, select a paint formulated for the intended environment. For interior projects, choose an interior-specific paint, which is made for indoor conditions. For exterior use, pick a paint designed for outdoor exposure to ensure color durability and resistance to weather. Selecting the correct type ensures that the vibrant color and finish are maintained in the environment where the brand color will be showcased.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 809 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
