Pantone™ PMS 728 C

PMS 728 C is a Pantone PMS standard, and each paint brand creates its own unique palettes with different formulas and naming systems. Most brands do not offer reliable cross-references to Pantone PMS colors, especially for achieving the precise look intended for PMS 728 C. For brand consistency, specify PMS 728 C directly rather than using a listed equivalent in another system, as even minor differences in shade or finish can be noticeable in marketing and display contexts.

When specifying PMS 728 C for a project, select an interior-grade paint for surfaces that will be displayed indoors and are not exposed to direct sunlight, weather, or moisture. For brand installations outdoors or in environments exposed to the elements, use an exterior-rated paint to ensure best color durability and performance. Confirm the intended use before ordering, as changing the product type or sheen may affect the appearance of PMS 728 C.

To maintain a consistent appearance of PMS 728 C across multiple orders, it is important to always request the same paint type and sheen. Matching substrate and surface preparation, as well as using the original reference standard for approval, will help ensure the color remains visually consistent. If your project has formal brand requirements, keep a sample or approved panel on hand to verify against future batches before application.

Before applying paint matched to PMS 728 C, be sure to clean the substrate thoroughly to remove dust, oils, and residues. For most surfaces, light scuffing can improve adhesion, especially on glossy or smooth materials. Allow cleaned surfaces to dry completely. Always test the color and finish on a small area under expected lighting to confirm results before proceeding with the full application.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
