PMS 662 C | System / collection: Pantone PMS. This color is a strong, cool blue with notable depth and intensity. It delivers a technical, corporate, assertive, and formal vibe with a visually commanding presence. PMS 662 C is intended for brand-critical projects where fidelity to specification is required, such as corporate displays, signage, and environments with stringent visual standards.

PMS 662 C presents as a very dark blue; it has a low light reflectance value (LRV 2.1), making it nearly as dark as blue hues get in practical use.

The color has a distinctly cool appearance, leaning toward a violet-blue region.

PMS 662 C is highly saturated, appearing bold and substantial, particularly under strong lighting.

The undertone of the color is neutral to cool, without apparent warmth or greenish shift.

This color is particularly sensitive to gloss level and lighting; higher-gloss finishes may intensify its saturation and increase the perceived depth.

PMS 662 C performs well in environments where a stable, recognizable blue is required, such as branded exhibitions, signage, or corporate environments. For specification work, careful assessment of finish is advised, as gloss will amplify depth and saturation, while matte finishes may slightly mute its vibrancy. This color can appear nearly black in dim or indirect lighting, so evaluate with physical references in final conditions. Uniform surface preparation is essential for even coverage, as its darkness and saturation make any application inconsistencies more noticeable compared to less intense colors.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 654 C is a slightly darker and more muted blue, with a somewhat less saturated appearance.
  • PMS 287 C is a lighter blue, appearing brighter and more vivid, but maintaining a similarly cool undertone.
  • PMS 661 C is very close in hue but marginally lighter and slightly less violet-leaning.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 662 C

Can PMS 662 C be directly cross-referenced to colors from other paint brands?

PMS 662 C is a Pantone Matching System color, which means it is defined as a visual color standard rather than a specific paint formula. Most paint brands maintain their own unique color collections, and vivid shades like PMS 662 C rarely have true equivalents in these collections. Even if a close match exists, the appearance can vary due to differences in pigments, base formulations, and finish. For brand and display work where color accuracy is essential, it is important to specify PMS 662 C directly by code and request a match to the Pantone reference, rather than relying on cross-references from other brands.

What should I consider about shipping times when ordering PMS 662 C matched paint?

Transit time for PMS 662 C paint depends on your shipping address and the delivery method you select at checkout. Orders are typically custom made to match the Pantone color, which may add production time. If your project has fixed deadlines, plan for production and shipping times accordingly. Expedited shipping can reduce delivery duration, but always allow extra lead time if PMS 662 C is required for scheduled brand installations or display launches.

How does sheen choice affect the appearance of PMS 662 C in branded display or exhibit applications?

PMS 662 C is sensitive to the selected finish. High-gloss sheens increase the color's apparent saturation and depth, making it look bolder under strong lighting. Matte or low sheen finishes can slightly mute the vibrancy and may make the color appear lighter or less intense, especially in indirect light. Assess the final environment and viewing distance when choosing a finish, and keep in mind that surface prep is especially important for dark, saturated colors like PMS 662 C to ensure even coverage and visual consistency.

Are there any notable brand or marketing uses of PMS 662 C that I should know about when specifying this color?

PMS 662 C is often chosen for high-visibility branding applications where a strong, cool blue is needed for visual presence and specification accuracy. Typical uses include trade show displays, wayfinding signage, and branded architectural elements where a technical or corporate image is required. Always confirm that PMS 662 C matches the intended brand guidelines and evaluate it under the actual lighting and conditions of your installation to achieve the intended result.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 662 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
