PMS 649 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, widely used for specifying consistent colors across branding, signage, and display fabrication. This color is best described as clean, understated, muted, reserved, and cool in vibe. It delivers a low-key visual presence, offering a professional character suitable for situations where a pale blue must convey clarity and neutrality without drawing undue attention. Its high light reflectance (LRV ~70) emphasizes openness and readability, which supports its use in backgrounds or large-area corporate settings.

PMS 649 C appears as a light shade with high light reflectance (LRV 70.01). The color exhibits a cool tendency, with blue tones dominating its appearance. The saturation is low, resulting in a subtle and reserved effect. Undertones are neutral to slightly blue-gray, lacking overt warmth. The color maintains a stable appearance across most standard paint finishes, though extremely glossy or matte sheens may slightly affect the perceived softness.

PMS 649 C works effectively in branding, exhibit, and environmental design contexts where a low-saturation, cool blue is needed for supporting backgrounds, spatial clarity, or signage requiring high visual contrast with darker or more saturated brand elements. Carefully evaluate lighting conditions, as cooler light may exaggerate the blueness or make it appear grayer. Lighter colors such as PMS 649 C are more sensitive to substrate preparation; uniform priming is recommended to avoid visible variances. When comparing to similar light blues, this choice will be less vibrant and more reserved, making it preferable for understated applications where boldness is not the target.

Similar colors:
PMS 650 C: Slightly deeper and more chromatic, appearing as a stronger blue.

PMS 656 C: Lighter and closer to a near-white, with much less visual weight.

PMS 2706 C: Similar in lightness but displays a purple undertone, lending a cooler and softer character.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 649 C

Will PMS 649 C look the same in glossy and matte finishes?

The appearance of PMS 649 C will change depending on the finish you choose. A glossy sheen will make the color appear brighter and may emphasize its blue undertones, while a matte finish will look softer and slightly lighter. This is true even though the underlying color formula stays the same. For projects requiring close visual brand alignment, be sure that samples and production items use the same finish to avoid perceived mismatches.

How do I choose the right paint type for PMS 649 C if my application is indoors or outdoors?

For PMS 649 C, select an interior paint if your project is only exposed to indoor conditions, such as displays, signage, or fixtures inside a facility. Opt for exterior-grade paint if the color will be used in areas exposed to weather, sunlight, or heavy public use, such as outdoor signs or installations. Proper selection ensures your color holds up visually and meets durability needs based on its environment.

Can PMS 649 C be used for prototyping and concept models to show brand color alignment?

PMS 649 C is suitable for prototypes and concept models where showing accurate brand color is important. You can order PMS 649 C in formats like spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, or other project-appropriate finishes. For best results, test application on your actual prototype material and view the painted sample under expected lighting to confirm it meets your visual branding needs before final production.

What is the typical lead time for ordering PMS 649 C paint?

PMS 649 C paint is custom made to order. Standard production lead time varies by product type and current order volume, but most orders are ready to ship within a few business days. Plan extra time for larger quantities or made-to-spec formats, and factor in transit time when scheduling your branding or display project.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 649 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 649 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 649 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 649 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 649 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
