PMS 5315 C, from the Pantone PMS collection, presents as a light, cool-toned violet-gray. The vibe is subdued, technical, soft, and modern. This color is routinely described as gentle and understated, with a distinctly cool and slightly muted presence appropriate for environments or identities where overt color is not desired but a clear chromatic direction is still important.

PMS 5315 C appears light, with an LRV of 66.01, making it suitable for applications needing moderate reflectance. The color has a cool temperature tendency, driven by its placement in the purple-gray region. PMS 5315 C exhibits low to moderate saturation, maintaining a subdued character. The undertone is distinctly lavender, though grayed to prevent it from feeling overtly pastel. The color is moderately finish-sensitive; higher gloss will slightly increase perceived chroma and coolness, while matte finishes will soften and mute its violet qualities.

PMS 5315 C is operationally useful where a light, cool, subtly branded color is required, such as brand environments, displays, or prototypes favoring a restrained color approach. It remains visually stable in a variety of real-world conditions but may shift in perceived warmth or coolness based on ambient lighting (appearing cooler under daylight, more neutral under warm fluorescent). For large-area applications, evenness of finish and substrate preparation are important to avoid visible variation due to its light value. When specifying alongside other cool neutrals, note its subtle lavender cast, which distinguishes it from more strictly neutral grays or blue-based pales.

Similar colors:
PMS 530 C — Lighter and less muted, yielding a more pastel and less gray appearance.

PMS 531 C — Comparable in hue but slightly lighter and with increased chroma, giving a purer lavender look.

PMS 538 C — Considerably more neutral and cooler, lacking the subtle violet undertone and reading more as a classic light gray.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 5315 C

Can I use Pantone PMS 5315 C to touch up an existing painted product or surface?

Pantone PMS 5315 C references a color standard for visual brand consistency but does not define the exact sheen, material, or process used on existing products or surfaces. Because Pantone codes do not account for finish or substrate differences, matching PMS 5315 C to a pre-painted item for touch-up purposes is not recommended. The result may appear visibly different due to these uncontrolled factors. For best results, use PMS 5315 C as a target for new, uniform branding applications rather than for correcting or blending into prior coatings.

What options are available for expedited production if I need PMS 5315 C quickly?

If your project requires PMS 5315 C on a tight timeline, expedited production options can be selected at checkout. Choosing expedited service may reduce the processing time for your order. If you have a firm deadline for your branding or display needs, it is recommended to contact MyPerfectColor before ordering to confirm we can meet your schedule for PMS 5315 C.

Why might PMS 5315 C appear different on metal, plastic, or wood surfaces?

The appearance of PMS 5315 C can shift across different materials because each substrate absorbs and reflects paint differently. Surface texture, reflectivity, and absorption all play a role in how the final color is perceived. For brand-critical or multi-material projects, it is best to evaluate PMS 5315 C samples directly on the same material that will be used in your finished display or component to ensure consistent results.

Does PMS 5315 C require any special undercoat or extra coats for complete coverage?

PMS 5315 C is a light, muted lavender-gray. While it is less vivid than highly saturated colors, its lightness means coverage may be affected by the color and condition of the substrate. For uniform brand results, especially over contrasting surfaces, consider using an appropriate undercoat and be prepared to apply more than one coat. This approach helps achieve even coverage and accurate visual impact for branding, displays, or prototypes using PMS 5315 C.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 5315 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 5315 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 5315 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 5315 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 5315 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
