PMS 5305 C is part of the Pantone PMS system, which provides standardized color targets for consistent reproduction in brand, marketing, and display contexts. The color carries an understated, technical, muted, and modern vibe, presenting as a subdued lavender-grey with a soft, cool quality in neutral lighting.

PMS 5305 C appears as a mid-light value color, supported by an LRV of 53.21, giving it moderate brightness suitable for a range of surfaces. The color conveys a distinctly cool tendency, influenced by its position on the color wheel (hue angle near violet). PMS 5305 C shows low to moderate chroma, appearing muted rather than saturated. The color exhibits a subtle lavender-lilac undertone, which may intensify under certain lighting conditions. PMS 5305 C displays finish sensitivity, with gloss or satin finishes enhancing chromatic aspects and matte finishes reinforcing its softness.

PMS 5305 C is effective in environments where a soft, cool color presence is desired without overpowering adjacent elements. It works well in controlled lighting—strong daylight may draw out subtle violet notes, while artificial light can render it more neutral. Careful surface preparation is recommended, as uneven application or surface variances can affect the uniformity of this muted shade. Compared to similar colors, PMS 5305 C maintains a more restrained character with less pronounced chromaticity, resulting in a quieter, more adaptable appearance.

Similar colors:
PMS 531 C is lighter and features a more noticeable lavender tint.

PMS 5295 C appears slightly warmer and softer, trending toward a paler mauve.

PMS 406 C is more neutral and has a subtle beige-grey tendency, lacking the violet undertone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 5305 C

How is PMS 5305 C used as a standard for sign, display, or exhibit fabrication projects?

Pantone PMS 5305 C serves as a target color reference for brand-driven sign, display, and exhibit components. Clients and fabricators specify PMS 5305 C using the Pantone code to communicate the exact color needed for visual branding. Because finishes, lighting, and materials can all influence how PMS 5305 C appears once applied, it is best practice to test the painted color on the actual substrate before full production. Sampling confirms that the finished result meets brand expectations under intended lighting and viewing conditions.

How much area does a spray can of PMS 5305 C cover and how can I estimate the amount needed?

One spray can of Pantone PMS 5305 C generally covers about 20 to 25 square feet per coat, depending on surface texture, color contrast, and application technique. For best results, estimate your total project area, multiply by the number of coats needed for uniform coverage, and account for any surface irregularities or absorbency. Applying a primer of similar color can help achieve opacity with fewer coats, especially for muted mid-light colors like PMS 5305 C. Testing coverage on your specific material is recommended for accuracy before placing larger orders.

Will PMS 5305 C paint look exactly like the PMS 5305 C chip in my Pantone book?

PMS 5305 C specified as a paint is matched to the Pantone reference, but its appearance can differ from the Pantone book chip due to factors such as paint sheen, surface material, and viewing conditions. Pantone books are printed standards and are not a prediction of painted surfaces under all lighting and finish types. To ensure PMS 5305 C aligns with your expectations, test samples on the actual material using your chosen sheen and review under the lighting where your project will be viewed. This step helps confirm acceptability for your brand application and reduces risk of unexpected variation.

How should I choose the right sheen or finish for PMS 5305 C in branding applications?

Choosing the appropriate sheen for Pantone PMS 5305 C impacts how the color is perceived in your application. Higher gloss or satin finishes can make the color appear slightly richer and more reflective, accentuating its subtle lavender undertone. Matte finishes will soften PMS 5305 C and reduce visible reflections. Decide on sheen based on how the final product will be viewed, the type of substrate, and your desired visual emphasis. Always sample the chosen sheen on your actual material under intended lighting before finalizing large orders for branded or display projects.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 5305 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
