PMS 5235 C (Pantone PMS System) is a muted, cool lavender with a moderate lightness and an understated, professional character. The color has a subtle gray undertone and comes across as subdued, soft, and sophisticated. PMS 5235 C’s practical vibe is quiet, clean, and modern, making it operationally useful for branding where a distinctively gentle purple is required.

PMS 5235 C is a light color, with an LRV of 58.47. The color tends toward a cool temperature. PMS 5235 C exhibits low to moderate saturation, appearing soft rather than vivid. The color features a grayish, muted lavender undertone. PMS 5235 C’s subtle chroma aids in its versatility, but the appearance may shift under different finishes (matte, gloss) or lighting conditions, so evaluation on the intended substrate is recommended.

PMS 5235 C works well for brand visuals, display manufacturing, or prototypes where a muted lavender shade is specified. It is important to assess the color in the actual environment and finish, as subtle lavender hues can appear grayer or cooler under certain lighting. Compared to similar colors, PMS 5235 C provides a softer, less saturated look, which can help distinguish it from more saturated pastel purples. For intended use, evaluate on both coated and uncoated surfaces, as finish and substrate can affect perceived subtlety and flavor.

Similar colors:

PMS 522 C – Slightly lighter and somewhat more vivid, creating a clearer pastel effect compared to the muted tone of PMS 5235 C.

PMS 5245 C – More gray and less chromatic, resulting in a more neutral presence than PMS 5235 C.

PMS 5285 C – Cooler and bluer in appearance, offering a more distinct shift away from lavender toward a blue-gray.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 5235 C

How closely will PMS 5235 C paint match what I see in my Pantone book?

Pantone books use printed ink on paper as the reference standard for PMS 5235 C. When matching this color in paint, the appearance can differ depending on sheen (matte or gloss), substrate, and lighting. Matte finishes tend to look softer and more muted, while glossier finishes may appear richer and brighter. Always evaluate PMS 5235 C paint on the material and finish where it will be used to get an accurate sense of the final look, especially for brand or display projects.

Should I choose matte or gloss for my PMS 5235 C application?

The choice between matte and gloss for PMS 5235 C depends on your project needs. Matte finish reduces glare and can create a softer appearance, which helps with readability in high-light areas or at close range. Gloss finish tends to boost the color's brightness and saturation, making PMS 5235 C more vivid from a distance. Consider how the painted area will be viewed, the impact of lighting, and any brand guidelines before choosing a finish. Sampling both on the intended surface is recommended.

Why does it matter that PMS 5235 C is reproduced under Pantone license?

PMS 5235 C is a Pantone standard, meaning it is specified to precise visual targets for brand consistency. Only licensed manufacturers like MyPerfectColor are authorized to match Pantone colors using the correct targets and methods. This helps ensure that PMS 5235 C in paint aligns with industry expectations for branding, displays, and prototypes, reducing the risk of off-brand results on physical materials.

What should I know about coverage when painting PMS 5235 C?

Because PMS 5235 C is a muted light lavender, coverage may be influenced by the underlying material and paint format. While not as vivid as some colors, lighter pastel shades like PMS 5235 C can sometimes need multiple coats to achieve full, uniform color, especially over dark or uneven substrates. Using an appropriate undercoat helps with consistency and reduces the number of coats required. Plan for sampling and test coverage to ensure the desired result.

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 5235 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
