PMS 496 C belongs to the Pantone PMS System / collection. This color presents a clean, soft, and approachable appearance with a distinctly light value and a muted, warm vibe. It is often selected for its contemporary yet gentle aesthetic, offering an understated color presence that is visually accessible in brand, display, and marketing applications.

PMS 496 C appears light in tone (LRV 62.16), providing noticeable brightness on most surfaces. The color has a warm tendency, influenced by its subtle red-orange undertone. PMS 496 C displays low to moderate saturation, avoiding both vividness and dullness. The undertone is muted red-pink, offering a gentle warmth that is neither overly rosy nor beige. This color can be sensitive to finish and lighting, with satin and gloss sheens enhancing its vibrancy and matte finishes increasing its understated quality.

PMS 496 C works well where a gentle, warm pink is sought for branding, retail, or event graphics that require a soft yet noticeable color statement. Under certain lighting conditions—especially cool or indirect light—the color can appear grayer or less saturated. Surface preparation should ensure a uniform base, as the lighter value may reveal inconsistencies in substrate color. Compared to similar light pinks, PMS 496 C maintains better warmth and softness, without veering into overt beige or coolness.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 495 C: Slightly lighter and more muted, with a softer appearance and a slightly cooler undertone.
  • PMS 698 C: Lighter and more neutral, with lower chroma and less detectable warmth.
  • PMS 501 C: Slightly darker and more saturated, presenting a more pronounced pink character.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 496 C

How will the finish or sheen affect how PMS 496 C appears on my branded displays?

The appearance of PMS 496 C can change noticeably depending on whether you use a matte, satin, or gloss finish. Gloss and satin finishes will increase the perceived vibrancy and brightness of PMS 496 C, making the color feel a bit warmer and more lively. In contrast, a matte finish will mute the color and give it a softer, more understated presentation. If consistent brand color is a priority, always evaluate the finish chosen for your project, as it directly affects the visual impact of PMS 496 C, especially on large or lighted surfaces.

What is the best way to sample PMS 496 C for a brand approval workflow before full production?

For PMS 496 C, it is recommended to order a small sample in the same finish and format you plan to use for your final application. Test the sample on the actual substrate and review it under the installed lighting conditions. This process helps ensure PMS 496 C meets brand requirements before committing to a larger order, especially given the noticeable effects that lighting and substrate choice can have on this lighter color.

Why is PMS 496 C often used as a standard in sign, display, and exhibit fabrication?

PMS 496 C is specified in these contexts because Pantone codes provide a precise color target that supports brand consistency across vendors and materials. In sign, display, or exhibit fabrication, using the PMS 496 C standard lets everyone involved reference the same target for visual alignment. To minimize risk, it is good practice to verify PMS 496 C on the actual material to be used, as the final appearance can shift depending on substrate and finish.

How do I select the right paint type for PMS 496 C for interior versus exterior use?

To choose the best paint type for PMS 496 C, first consider where and how it will be used. For indoor displays or environments, interior formulas will work for most situations. For branded elements exposed to the weather, select an exterior-rated paint to ensure PMS 496 C maintains its color and finish. If you are unsure which product fits your application, compare the format and durability options before ordering. PMS 496 C is available in several paint types to suit both interior and exterior brand needs.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 496 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 496 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 496 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
