PMS 445 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a low-saturation, cool-toned charcoal gray. Its muted, understated appearance is often valued in professional branding for a disciplined, corporate, or industrial vibe. This color conveys qualities such as technical, stable, neutral, discreet, and modern.

PMS 445 C presents as a distinctly dark color; LRV is 9.01, indicating limited reflected light and pronounced depth. The color has a cool tendency, with undertones leaning toward blue and graphite. Saturation is low; chroma is subdued, contributing to a neutral, less visually assertive appearance. The undertone is slightly blue or slate, especially visible under bright, neutral lighting. The color can be finish-sensitive; gloss or satin finishes may introduce blue-shift or make the color appear slightly lighter.

PMS 445 C is most effective for visual identity scenarios requiring a grounded, professional impression without strong color bias. It should be evaluated under representative lighting, as cool light enhances bluish undertones while warm light increases perceived softness. Surface preparation is important for uniform coverage, as imperfections can be emphasized by darker, muted colors. Compared to lighter or warmer grays, this color is less likely to show yellowing or discoloration over time.

Similar colors:
PMS 446 C: Similar but appears slightly lighter and less cool, delivering a softer slate gray.

PMS 432 C: Darker and features a more pronounced blue undertone, resulting in a colder, more industrial feel.

PMS 425 C: Lighter with a more neutral undertone, creating an appearance closer to standard medium gray.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 445 C

Are there any noteworthy brand or institutional uses for Pantone PMS 445 C that help define its typical applications?

Pantone PMS 445 C is commonly chosen for professional branding projects that require a disciplined and understated color presence. While it is used by many organizations aiming for a technical and stable appearance, there is no single globally recognized brand exclusively associated with PMS 445 C. Its popularity comes from its ability to deliver a grounded, corporate impression in logos, signage, and displays. If your standards specify Pantone PMS 445 C, confirm project expectations and appearance under your intended lighting conditions to ensure brand consistency.

How much area does a standard spray can of Pantone PMS 445 C cover, and how can I estimate what I need?

A typical spray can of Pantone PMS 445 C covers about 20 to 25 square feet per coat, assuming a smooth and primed surface. Actual coverage may be lower for textured, dark, or highly contrasting substrates, or if more than one coat is needed for opacity and uniformity. To estimate quantity, measure the total area, multiply by the number of coats planned, and divide by the coverage per can. Place a small order first if you are unsure, as environmental and surface variables can affect results.

What should I keep in mind when using Pantone PMS 445 C in pop-ups or retail environments?

For pop-up or retail use of Pantone PMS 445 C, consider several operational factors. This color is finish-sensitive, so gloss or satin may alter its appearance and perceived brightness. Always evaluate a sample under the installed lighting to confirm appearance before large-scale use. Dark, cool grays like PMS 445 C highlight surface imperfections and may look different depending on lighting temperature. Choose durable paint formats suited to the substrate and expected handling, and ensure proper surface prep for the best visual consistency and durability during your event or installation.

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 445 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 445 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 445 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
