PMS 414 C is a Pantone Matching System color with a moderately light reflectance (System / collection: Pantone PMS; LRV: 46.7). It has an olive-gray appearance, characterized by subdued, technical, and utilitarian qualities. This color is often selected for its stable, muted, and sophisticated visual impression, making it well suited for functional environments or brand elements where understated neutrality is important.

PMS 414 C appears medium-light in value (LRV 46.7). The color has a cool undertone, with a subtle olive-green bias. It is moderately desaturated, resulting in a neutral, utilitarian effect. The color’s subdued chroma contributes to low visual intensity under most lighting conditions. Finish selection may influence perceived warmth and depth, particularly between matte and gloss applications.

PMS 414 C works well in brand and specification settings where visual restraint and professionalism are required. It is frequently used on environmental elements or products seeking a contemporary, technical, or utilitarian appearance. When implementing PMS 414 C, evaluate surface preparation and finish sensitivity, as the muted nature may show surface irregularities in higher-gloss applications. Compared to slightly lighter or darker olive-grays, PMS 414 C sits at a balanced midpoint and offers versatility in a palette requiring subdued complexity.

Similar colors:
PMS 415 C is lighter and slightly cooler, resulting in a more understated gray-green.

PMS 417 C is darker and more saturated, giving a stronger olive tone.

PMS 418 C is significantly deeper, with increased depth and a heavier, more pronounced green undertone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 414 C

How can lighting conditions affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 414 C?

Pantone PMS 414 C can appear different depending on the lighting where it is viewed. Common light sources, such as fluorescent, LED, or daylight, each shift the perceived hue and neutrality of the color. To achieve brand consistency, always evaluate PMS 414 C under the same lighting as it will be used. This helps avoid unexpected shifts and ensures the final result matches expectations for branding or display applications.

Is Pantone PMS 414 C suitable for color-matching a specific part or touch-up purpose?

Pantone PMS 414 C is intended for brand-color reproduction and visual brand accuracy, not for color-matching or touch-up of existing parts. If precise touch-up-grade results are required, send a physical part to be matched instead of relying on the Pantone code. This ensures the best alignment for substrate-specific situations and avoids mismatch risks.

What should I do to ensure consistent results when reordering Pantone PMS 414 C?

For repeat orders of Pantone PMS 414 C, use the same product type, application method, and sheen as the original order. Always reference the same Pantone standard for approval. This approach helps maintain visual consistency across batches and reduces the chance of perceptible color variation in brand or display settings.

What are the best practices for applying Pantone PMS 414 C over large areas to achieve uniformity?

To get a uniform appearance when using Pantone PMS 414 C on large surfaces, plan your coats in advance and use a consistent application technique for each section. Avoid stopping in the middle of panels, and maintain wet edges to prevent visual banding or patchy coverage. This is especially important in visible brand settings where uniformity matters.

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 414 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 414 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 414 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
