Pantone™ PMS 3985 C

Pantone PMS 3985 C should be specified when a project requires consistent color across brand-facing display, signage, or exhibit components. By using the PMS 3985 C standard, different vendors and materials can target the same recognizable shade, helping ensure visual alignment in branded spaces. However, appearance can still vary by substrate and finish, so sampling paint on the actual display material under real lighting conditions is recommended before production.

To keep Pantone PMS 3985 C visually consistent over large surfaces, use the same paint batch and finish throughout the project. Plan for full, even coverage with a consistent application method, such as spraying or rolling in controlled sections. Allow for proper dry times between coats and avoid applying paint in patchwork. Because muted and saturated colors like PMS 3985 C can show coverage variations, additional coats may be needed to achieve a solid, streak-free appearance.

Pantone PMS 3985 C is often chosen for prototypes and concept models that need to reflect real brand colors accurately. Order PMS 3985 C in a format that suits your prototype, such as spray paint, paint pens, or bottles. Test the color on your actual model material to verify appearance under intended lighting. Evaluating samples on your prototype helps confirm visual alignment before wider project rollout.

When applying Pantone PMS 3985 C to metal or powder-coated surfaces, clean and lightly scuff the part to promote adhesion. Be aware that pre-existing coatings, surface gloss level, and substrate color can all affect the final appearance of PMS 3985 C. Matching a standard PMS color is a visual target, but results can vary, so always evaluate a small sample on the actual part before proceeding with the full project.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
