PMS 3945 C, part of the Pantone Matching System (Pantone PMS) collection, is recognized for its intensely bright, almost fluorescent yellow hue. The color presents as clear, bold, and distinctly warm, with characteristics that convey visibility, urgency, and distinctiveness in brand and display environments. Its overall appearance is crisp, energetic, and attention-grabbing—qualities that lend themselves to applications demanding standout visual communication.

PMS 3945 C exhibits a very high lightness level, as reflected in its LRV of 76.3. The color is inherently warm, falling clearly on the yellow-green side of the spectrum. PMS 3945 C is highly saturated, resulting in an intense and vivid appearance. The undertone leans toward a lime-yellow, with a subtle greenish cast in certain lighting. The color is sensitive to finish and lighting, appearing brightest in matte and direct light and gaining increased sheen in gloss finishes.

PMS 3945 C functions most effectively where absolute visual impact and high visibility are required, such as in directional signage, display graphics, or promotional elements. Users should evaluate this color carefully under the intended lighting, as its brightness and perceived undertone can shift significantly across environments and finishes. Highly saturated yellows like PMS 3945 C may require more coats for uniform, opaque coverage, particularly over dark or uneven substrates. Compared to similar saturated yellows, this color reads as slightly cooler and more green-leaning, with higher perceived luminosity.

Similar colors:
PMS 395 C: Similar in brightness but slightly lighter and with a more fluorescent character.

PMS 396 C: Slightly warmer and more golden, with less noticeable lime undertone.

PMS 388 C: Noticeably lighter and softer; less saturated and less high-visibility.

PMS 389 C: Warmer and more traditionally yellow, offering greater neutrality and less intensity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 3945 C

Why is PMS 3945 C not recommended as a specification for touch-up work on existing products or coatings?

PMS 3945 C is a Pantone color reference designed to communicate the target color for new branding and display applications. It does not specify the original sheen, material, or production variables from previously coated products. Because of these factors, using PMS 3945 C as a touch-up specification often leads to visible mismatches, especially with high-visibility, highly saturated colors like this. For accurate touch-up results, determine the exact coating and finish used on the existing item rather than relying on the Pantone code.

What are the typical production lead times for ordering paint matched to PMS 3945 C?

Paint matched to PMS 3945 C is custom mixed for each order. Typical lead times depend on the product type and current production volume but generally range from a few days to about a week before shipping. If you have a specific timeline or need expedited processing, review options during checkout or contact customer support before ordering.

What are best practices for comparing PMS 3945 C samples during color approval?

When evaluating PMS 3945 C samples, compare them under consistent lighting that replicates the final installation environment. Use the same type of substrate and ensure all samples are fully dry or cured, as wet or uncured paint may not display the true final color. Variations in sheen, thickness, and lighting can all affect the perceived color, especially for bright and highly saturated yellows like PMS 3945 C.

When is a primer needed for PMS 3945 C matched paint?

The need for a primer with PMS 3945 C depends on the type of surface being coated, the paint product selected, and where the item will be installed. Primers are often recommended on bare metal, plastic, wood, or over dark or highly porous surfaces to promote adhesion and provide an even base for this bright yellow. For best results, review the specific recommendations for your chosen paint type and substrate before applying PMS 3945 C.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 3945 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 3945 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 3945 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
