PMS 386 C, from the Pantone PMS collection, is a bright, yellow-leaning green used in professional branding and specification work. The overall vibe of this color is energetic, bold, technical, eye-catching, and clean, with a distinctly modern edge. It is most often described as a fresh, attention-getting option for communicating visibility and clarity in both print and environmental graphics.

PMS 386 C is classified as a light color, with an LRV of 76.3 indicating high brightness.

The color has a cool to neutral yellow-green base, with a slight inclination toward yellow.

Saturation is strong, resulting in a vivid and bold appearance.

The undertone is sharp and citrus-like, with no significant muting or muddiness.

This color is sensitive to finish; higher gloss finishes can further increase its brightness and perceived intensity.

PMS 386 C works well where maximum visibility or differentiation is essential, particularly in modern branding, trade show graphics, and safety-oriented communications. Accurate appearance depends on controlling both lighting and finish; under cool or low light, the color's vibrancy may diminish. As with many highly saturated, lighter yellow-greens, coverage may require attentive surface prep and the use of an appropriate base coat to achieve uniformity. Color shifts can also occur between gloss and matte finishes, making finish selection and viewing conditions key operational considerations. When comparing to other yellow-greens, PMS 386 C will generally present as both lighter and clearer.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 387 C: Slightly lighter and less saturated, appearing even closer to a pure yellow.
  • PMS 375 C: More green and slightly deeper, offering a richer, less citrus-forward aesthetic.
  • PMS 381 C: Slightly more muted and less bright, providing a softer, lower-chroma feel.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 386 C

How can the surface texture affect the look of Pantone PMS 386 C paint in a brand environment?

When applying Pantone PMS 386 C, surface texture plays a key role in how the color is perceived. A smooth, even surface will make PMS 386 C appear more consistent, saturated, and true to the specified target. On rough or heavily textured substrates, the same color may look darker, less vivid, or uneven due to changes in light reflection and shadowing. If a uniform, brand-consistent appearance is essential for your project, use a well-prepared, smooth surface whenever possible and consider sampling to assess results on your chosen material.

When should I request a sample of Pantone PMS 386 C before ordering for a project?

Sampling Pantone PMS 386 C is strongly recommended if your project is highly visible, large in scale, or subject to formal brand approvals. Also consider sampling if you are applying the color over unfamiliar substrates or under unique lighting conditions, since these factors can influence how PMS 386 C appears. Sampling helps ensure visual alignment with brand standards before committing to full production, especially with this type of bright, saturated color.

How does the choice of finish affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 386 C in real-world use?

Pantone PMS 386 C is very responsive to finish and sheen. Gloss finishes increase its brightness and make the color appear more intense and vivid, while matte finishes may soften and slightly mute the color. Satin and semi-gloss finishes fall in between. To achieve the closest match to your intended brand standard, always finalize finish selection early and review samples in the expected lighting conditions. Be aware that finish differences can make PMS 386 C appear either lighter or deeper than a printed reference or color chip.

What practical steps help achieve a uniform look with Pantone PMS 386 C over a large display or surface?

For Pantone PMS 386 C, use consistent application methods, proper surface prep, and a recommended base coat to promote even coverage, especially since light, saturated colors can be prone to patchiness. Plan for multiple coats as needed and always allow full drying between applications. Work in sections under steady lighting to avoid missed areas or streaks. These steps help maintain color consistency and the intended visual impact of PMS 386 C on large projects.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 386 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 386 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 386 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
