Pantone™ PMS 386 C

When applying Pantone PMS 386 C, surface texture plays a key role in how the color is perceived. A smooth, even surface will make PMS 386 C appear more consistent, saturated, and true to the specified target. On rough or heavily textured substrates, the same color may look darker, less vivid, or uneven due to changes in light reflection and shadowing. If a uniform, brand-consistent appearance is essential for your project, use a well-prepared, smooth surface whenever possible and consider sampling to assess results on your chosen material.

Sampling Pantone PMS 386 C is strongly recommended if your project is highly visible, large in scale, or subject to formal brand approvals. Also consider sampling if you are applying the color over unfamiliar substrates or under unique lighting conditions, since these factors can influence how PMS 386 C appears. Sampling helps ensure visual alignment with brand standards before committing to full production, especially with this type of bright, saturated color.

Pantone PMS 386 C is very responsive to finish and sheen. Gloss finishes increase its brightness and make the color appear more intense and vivid, while matte finishes may soften and slightly mute the color. Satin and semi-gloss finishes fall in between. To achieve the closest match to your intended brand standard, always finalize finish selection early and review samples in the expected lighting conditions. Be aware that finish differences can make PMS 386 C appear either lighter or deeper than a printed reference or color chip.

For Pantone PMS 386 C, use consistent application methods, proper surface prep, and a recommended base coat to promote even coverage, especially since light, saturated colors can be prone to patchiness. Plan for multiple coats as needed and always allow full drying between applications. Work in sections under steady lighting to avoid missed areas or streaks. These steps help maintain color consistency and the intended visual impact of PMS 386 C on large projects.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
