PMS 2735 C is a standardized color in the Pantone PMS collection. It presents a strong, distinctly cool violet with a bold, technical, and vivid visual presence. The color is frequently identified as clean, attention-grabbing, modern, and brand-oriented. With a very low Light Reflectance Value (LRV 1.73), it reads as dark and assertive even under bright lighting, ensuring prominence against both light and dark surroundings.

PMS 2735 C is very dark, with a low LRV indicating minimal reflectance. The color exhibits a distinctly cool tendency, with its position in the violet range. This color is highly saturated, showing strong chromatic intensity. The undertone is blue-violet, maintaining a vibrant but not muted appearance. PMS 2735 C can be sensitive to finish; higher gloss can intensify chroma and perceived depth, while matte finishes may reduce vibrancy.

PMS 2735 C works well when a vivid, consistent violet is required for brand, signage, or display projects. Due to its low reflectance and high chroma, ensure adequate lighting to accurately represent its vibrancy in the intended environment. The color’s richness may require careful attention when selecting primers and substrates, as well as potentially additional coats to achieve opacity, especially over lighter surfaces. Compared to similar violets, it will appear both deeper and more saturated.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2735 C

Can I use Pantone PMS 2735 C as a specification for touch-up work on existing products or coatings?

Pantone PMS 2735 C is not recommended as a touch-up specification for existing products or coatings. The Pantone PMS system provides a standard color target but does not specify the sheen, substrate, or original coating process. Without this detail, there can be visible differences between new and existing surfaces even if the same color is used. For touch-up or spot applications, it is best to reference a sample taken from the original material rather than relying on the Pantone code alone.

How can I maintain a uniform appearance when applying PMS 2735 C over a large area?

To achieve consistent color and coverage with PMS 2735 C over large surfaces, use the same application method and equipment throughout the project. Plan your coat sequence and allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next. For vivid and dark colors like PMS 2735 C, ensure complete coverage by using high-quality primers if needed and apply extra coats where lighter substrates show through. Always inspect in the intended lighting before final approval to confirm uniformity.

What product formats are available for Pantone PMS 2735 C, and how do I select the right one?

Pantone PMS 2735 C is available in custom spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and additional paint options as offered. Choose spray paint for smooth, even coverage on displays or signage, paint pens for marking or detail work, and brush-in-cap bottles for smaller components or sample evaluation. Select the format based on your project''s application method and the surface area to be covered.

What should I consider when using PMS 2735 C in pop-ups or retail environments?

When using PMS 2735 C in pop-ups or retail settings, assess the lighting conditions and durability requirements of the space before committing to large-scale application. Sample the color and finish on the target substrate to confirm appearance under installed lighting. For brand installations, select finishes that balance durability with the desired visual impact, and ensure the coated surfaces will withstand expected foot traffic and handling for the event duration.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2735 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
