PMS 216 C (Pantone PMS System / collection) is a deep, complex, red-based color with a formal, bold, and sophisticated vibe. It is visually dark, registering as a rich burgundy that maintains strong chromatic presence. The system is engineered for brand consistency and is frequently referenced where visual identity and precise color communication are required.
PMS 216 C presents as a dark, low-lightness color (LRV 5.46), offering significant opacity against lighter backgrounds. The color has a distinctly cool tendency relative to other reds due to a subtle muted undertone. PMS 216 C shows high saturation with a robust chromatic intensity. Undertones are understated blue-leaning, emphasizing depth and minimizing warmth. This color can be sensitive to gloss: higher-gloss finishes may enhance vibrancy, while matte or flat finishes can deepen its severity.
PMS 216 C is often specified in branding literature for beverage, luxury retail, and corporate packaging, as a dark red with authority that stands apart from brighter reds.
PMS 216 C works well in environments where a sophisticated, impactful red is needed without veering into overt warmth. Due to its depth and saturation, expect rich color but plan for multiple coats to ensure even coverage, especially over lighter substrates. Color perception is strongly influenced by finish; evaluate samples in the intended gloss level and typical on-site lighting. Compared to similar dark reds, PMS 216 C is more subdued and cooler, tending less toward violet and more toward wine-red.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

For any paint matched to PMS 216 C, safety guidelines depend on the specific product type and format you select. Always review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use and follow all recommendations for ventilation, handling, and personal protective equipment. Application of spray paint or other specialty coatings may require respirators, gloves, or eye protection. Make sure to follow safe use and disposal practices as specified by the SDS for your chosen product.
PMS 216 C paint is made to order to maximize brand consistency. Lead time varies based on product type, quantity, and current production volume. Standard turnaround is typically several business days, but complex or specialty formats like custom spray paint may require additional time. Plan ahead for marketing timelines and confirm estimated ship dates before placing high-visibility or time-sensitive orders.
To keep batch-to-batch consistency for PMS 216 C, always reorder the same product type and sheen as your original build. Approve results using the same Pantone reference standard and view samples under the same lighting and finish conditions each time. Color appearance can shift due to substrate, application method, and gloss, so maintain a consistent approval workflow for repeat orders.
For formal brand projects with PMS 216 C, order a small sample in the chosen product format and sheen before full production. Evaluate the sample on the actual substrate and under the lighting conditions where the project will be installed. This allows you to review color accuracy and finish in context and make an informed approval decision before committing to larger quantities.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
