PMS 146 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (Pantone PMS), widely used in marketing, industrial design, and display fabrication for accurate brand color matching. The color conveys an earthy, stable, and composed presence. It falls into the brown spectrum with golden undertones, and is typically seen as subdued, warm, and classic with a utilitarian edge.

PMS 146 C appears as a medium-dark hue, with its light reflectance value (LRV) of 16.02 indicating a relatively low brightness. The color displays a distinctly warm tendency, due to prominent golden and earthy undertones. PMS 146 C has moderate to strong saturation, presenting as bold but not overpowering. Undertones are yellow-golden, imparting a sense of warmth and approachability. This color exhibits some sensitivity to finish—matte finishes will accentuate earthiness, while gloss can elevate gold notes. PMS 146 C reads as stable and understated compared to brighter, high-chroma browns.

PMS 146 C is effective for applications seeking a natural, mature look, often for retail environments, fixtures, or brand displays specified with earth tones. It maintains visual presence under most lighting, but can shift slightly toward olive or ochre under cool light. Users should assess finish selection carefully as sheen alters the perception of warmth and chroma. When compared to similar browns, PMS 146 C is less red and more muted, making it dependable for backgrounds or secondary branding elements where over-saturation is a risk.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 146 C

How durable is PMS 146 C when applied as spray paint for branding and display use?

The durability of PMS 146 C spray paint depends on factors such as the preparation of the substrate, type of paint formulation, any applied topcoat, and the specific exposure environment. For interior displays with limited abrasion or moisture, standard spray paint can offer sufficient durability for temporary or moderate-use settings. If the display will be outdoors, exposed to moisture, or handled frequently, consider an appropriate primer and a protective clear topcoat. Always select the paint system based on your exposure and performance requirements for the project.

How can I get help choosing the correct paint type for PMS 146 C?

If you are unsure which paint format or formulation suits your PMS 146 C project, contact MyPerfectColor with details about your substrate (the material you are painting), the expected use and exposure conditions, and your preferred finish or sheen. This information will help select a product that delivers the right balance of appearance, durability, and ease of application for your brand or display application.

How does surface texture affect the appearance of PMS 146 C paint?

Texture can change how PMS 146 C appears once applied. Smoother surfaces will reflect light more evenly, resulting in a truer, often slightly lighter or more vibrant presentation of the color. Rough or matte textures scatter light and can make the color appear darker, more muted, or less saturated. It is important to evaluate real samples in the intended finish and application setting to confirm the color aligns with your brand requirements.

What is the typical lead time for ordering PMS 146 C paint?

PMS 146 C paint products are made to order for accurate color matching. Production lead time depends on the chosen product type, current demand, and the required quantity. Most spray paint and common formats ship within a few business days, but larger orders or custom product types may take longer. To avoid delays on brand or display projects, order early and confirm lead times at the time of purchase.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 146 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 146 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 146 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
