A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36152 is a cool, low-chroma blue-gray with a medium-dark value and a slightly muted, near-neutral appearance. It reads quieter than a saturated blue and carries enough color to stay distinct from a plain gray.
For practical use, MyPerfectColor custom-matched spray paint in this reference can be used on equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, switch covers, vent grilles, housings, railings, fabricated supports, and other small parts where a Fed Std 595C target is specified. It is also a workable choice for touch-up on maintenance items, prototype assemblies, training hardware, and color-coded accessories that need to stay aligned with the stated government color reference.
Because the color is low in chroma, finish and substrate still matter. A gloss or satin film will read a little deeper and cleaner than a flatter finish, while textured or weathered surfaces can make the color look softer. On repair work beside an existing coating, the standard match may differ from an aged or faded part even when the code is correct.
Fed Std 595C and AMS-STD-595 codes identify the color reference target, not the coating system or approval status. If the project is acceptance-critical or needs to match an in-service part exactly, compare against the actual surface and not only the code.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36152 is a color reference target. When you order from MyPerfectColor, you are ordering paint matched to that government color standard, not an official government-issued coating system.
The code does not by itself choose the chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or approval status for your project. If your specification requires a specific coating system or acceptance process, those requirements still need to be handled separately from the color code.
Not always. A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36152 is the standard color target, but an older in-service coating may have faded, weathered, changed sheen, or developed texture differences.
If you are repairing a visible area beside existing paint, a correct standard match can still look different from the surrounding surface. For acceptance-critical work, it is often better to compare against the existing part or use a sample panel before committing to the full repair.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36152 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, carts, fixtures, and fabricated components.
It is also practical for prototypes, mock-ups, training aids, color-coded hardware, and restoration or maintenance jobs where the drawing, manual, or procurement package calls out a government color standard. The goal is to match the specified reference, not to choose a decorative color.
MyPerfectColor can supply Fed Std 595C 36152 as a custom-matched color in available product formats such as spray paint, touch-up paint, and paint pens, depending on the product line selected.
Choose the format based on how you will apply it and how much area you need to cover. For small repairs, a touch-up format may be more practical, while larger parts are often better handled with spray paint or another suitable application format.
Documentation such as an SDS or product data belongs to the specific MyPerfectColor product or chemistry you order. The Fed Std 595C 36152 code is the color reference, not the product document set.
If your job needs procurement records, submittals, or compliance paperwork, make sure you review the documentation for the chosen paint product and confirm whether the project also requires a separate coating-system approval or technical requirement beyond the color match.
