A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26152 reads as a dark, low-chroma blue-gray with a restrained cool cast. It is close to a neutral gray, but the blue-green bias is still visible, especially on smooth or glossy parts. With an LRV of 13.92, it is a fairly deep color that can appear even darker as finish sheen increases.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in this color is suited to specification-driven spray work on equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, switch covers, support hardware, racks, and fabricated parts. It can also be used for touch-up on carts, fixtures, rail components, speaker grilles, and other small parts that need to align with a Fed Std 595C or AMS-STD-595 reference rather than an approximate gray.
Because the color is dark and low-chroma, it usually does not behave like a bright or vivid pigment, but surface condition still matters. Gloss level, substrate texture, and film build can make the same match read slightly lighter, darker, or cooler in use. On darker substrates or uneven repairs, prep quality and coverage can have a noticeable effect on the final appearance.
This is a MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected government color reference, not an official government-issued coating system. For new parts, fabrication, or standard-reference work, the code is often enough; for aged in-service pieces, project-specific approval, or acceptance-sensitive repairs, a sample panel or match to the existing part may be more appropriate because weathering and sheen changes can alter the appearance of the original coating.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26152 is a government color reference target. When you order from MyPerfectColor, you are ordering paint matched to Fed Std 595C 26152, not an official government coating system.
The code helps define the color, but it does not by itself choose the chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion protection, or any formal approval status for the job.
Yes, but only if you are trying to match the specified color reference, not necessarily the aged finish that is already on the part. Weathering, fade, sheen change, texture, and previous coating differences can make a correct Fed Std 595C 26152 match look different next to old paint.
For visible repairs or acceptance-sensitive work, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part is often the safer choice than matching the standard chip alone.
MyPerfectColor can supply Fed Std 595C 26152 as a custom-matched paint in formats such as spray paint, touch-up paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and other options where offered on the product page.
Choose the format based on the job: spray for larger areas, touch-up formats for small repairs, and a liquid format if you need brush application or another application method.
Start by cleaning and degreasing the surface, then remove loose rust, oxidation, dirt, and failing paint. Scuff sound existing coatings so the new paint has a better mechanical bond, and use a primer if the substrate, corrosion concern, or project system calls for it.
Because substrate and old coatings can change adhesion and appearance, test Fed Std 595C 26152 on the actual part before you coat a larger area.
Reorder by the exact code, Fed Std 595C 26152, and keep the same product type and finish whenever possible. That gives you the best chance of repeating the same result across multiple parts or later touch-up work.
Even with the same code, substrate, film build, and application method can change the final appearance, so match the original order details as closely as you can.
