A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 13591 reads as a bright, warm yellow-gold with strong chroma and a fairly clean appearance. It has a clear yellow body with a slight golden cast rather than a muted or gray-edged look, so it reads noticeably vivid even though it is not a deep color.

Fed Std 595C and AMS-STD-595 codes are color reference targets used in specification-driven work; the code itself does not define product chemistry, sheen, or approval status. MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint is made to match the selected government color reference for parts and projects where the document calls out this code.

This color can work well on spray-paintable items where a clear yellow reference is needed, such as control panels, equipment housings, brackets, switch covers, safety-marked fixtures, carts, fabricated frames, and small hardware. It is also a practical choice for mock-ups, training pieces, or replacement parts that need to visually track the specified standard across metal, plastic, or composite surfaces.

Because it is a bright yellow, coverage can be more sensitive to substrate color than darker standards; dark or uneven bases may show through before full film build is reached. Finish and surface texture also affect the result, and gloss coatings can make any surface flaws or sheen differences more noticeable. For acceptance-critical repairs beside an aged coating, the standard reference may still differ from the existing part even when the code match is correct.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 13591 *

What does Fed Std 595C 13591 mean, and does the code by itself define the full coating system?

Fed Std 595C 13591 identifies a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, surface preparation, gloss level, coating system, or formal approval status.

MyPerfectColor can supply custom-matched paint made to match the selected Fed Standard color reference, but you still need to choose the right product format and finish for the project.

Will Fed Std 595C 13591 match an older coated part during touch-up work?

Not always. Even if Fed Std 595C 13591 is the correct reference, an existing part may have faded, weathered, changed sheen, or developed texture differences over time. Those changes can make a standard-match touch-up look different next to the surrounding coating.

For visible repairs, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing in-service part may be the better choice if the surrounding finish has aged or the color acceptance is tight.

When is a Fed Std 595C 13591 match not enough for project acceptance?

A Fed Std 595C 13591 color match may not be enough when the job is inspection-critical, acceptance-critical, or controlled by a procurement package, engineering authority, or project-specific approval process.

In those cases, ask whether the project requires a sample panel, an existing-part match, or a specific coating system in addition to the color reference. The color code alone does not guarantee acceptance.

How can the finish change how Fed Std 595C 13591 looks after application?

Finish can change the way Fed Std 595C 13591 appears after it is applied. Gloss, satin, matte, texture, and film build can all affect how light reflects off the surface, so the same color reference can look different depending on the finish and application.

If the finish is part of the specification, order the product in the correct finish rather than relying on color alone. MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected government color reference should be selected with the project finish in mind.

How should I reorder Fed Std 595C 13591 for multiple parts or future touch-ups?

Reorder by the exact Fed Std 595C 13591 code, and keep the same product type and finish whenever possible. That is the best way to improve repeatability across parts and future orders.

Even with the same code, substrate, surface prep, and application method can change the final appearance. If you are matching an earlier MyPerfectColor order, repeat the same code, format, and finish details for the closest result.
