A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 33654 is a warm, medium-light golden yellow with a distinct orange cast. It reads as a clean, high-chroma color rather than a muted tan, and the surface can look more amber or more yellow depending on gloss and substrate.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference can be used on color-coded equipment panels, control boxes, housings, brackets, rails, carts, tool holders, and fabricated parts where the specification calls for this exact visual target. It is also a practical option for maintenance touch-up, prototype hardware, training aids, and parts that need to stay visually consistent across metal, plastic, or previously coated surfaces.
Because the color is fairly strong, coverage can vary with the base color and film build. Dark or uneven substrates may show through more readily, so a proper primer or additional coats can matter. On smooth glossy parts, the finish can make texture, repair edges, and small surface defects more noticeable.
For acceptance-sensitive work, matching the standard reference is not always the same as matching an aged in-service coating. Weathering, heat, and prior refinishing can shift the apparent warmth and depth of the existing part, so the approved target or a sample panel may be the better reference when the project requires tighter control.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 33654 is a color reference target. It tells you which government standard color to match, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, corrosion system, application method, or approval status. MyPerfectColor supplies custom-matched paint made to match the selected government color reference, not an official government-issued coating system.
If you are repairing next to an older coating, the standard code alone may not be enough to guarantee a visual match. Weathering, fade, sheen, texture, film build, and the original coating system can all change how AMS-STD-595 33654 looks on the part. For critical touch-up work, a full-part repaint, a sample panel, or a match to the existing part may be the better choice than matching only the standard chip.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 33654 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, housings, enclosures, brackets, fabricated hardware, training aids, mock-ups, and color-coded components. It is a practical choice when a drawing, maintenance manual, procurement package, or prototype calls for a government color standard and the goal is to match that reference consistently across parts or suppliers.
For repeat work, reorder by the exact color code, the same product type, and the same finish whenever possible. That gives you the best chance of consistency across parts. Keep in mind that substrate, primer, film build, and application method can still change the final appearance, so matching the code exactly does not eliminate all variation.
The SDS and product data apply to the specific MyPerfectColor product you choose, while AMS-STD-595 33654 is the color reference. If your project is compliance-sensitive or acceptance-critical, confirm whether the requirement is only a standard color match or whether it also calls for a project-specific coating system, sample panel, or approval process. The color code alone does not establish full compliance.
MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use.
