A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 10070 is a very dark brown with a warm, slightly orange undertone and low chroma. With an LRV of 3.11, it reads close to black in low light, but the brown tone still shows when there is enough light and surface contrast.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint for this government color reference is useful when a drawing, maintenance document, or procurement spec calls for Fed Std 595C 10070. It can be used on spray-painted brackets, housings, enclosures, panels, cabinets, support hardware, tool accessories, and fabricated parts where a dark brown reference is needed. MyPerfectColor supplies its own paint matched to the selected standard, not an official government-issued coating system.
Because the color is so dark, finish, film build, and substrate condition can change the way it reads after application. A gloss or semi-gloss finish can make surface texture, edges, and repair marks more noticeable, and the color may appear deeper on smooth metal than on porous or uneven surfaces. Coverage over contrasting primers or older coatings can also affect how quickly the final color evens out.
For new parts and specification-driven repaint work, the standard reference is usually the correct target. For aged in-service equipment, heat-exposed parts, or acceptance-sensitive repairs, the match may need to be checked against the existing surface rather than the chip alone, since weathering and sheen changes are not captured by the code.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 10070 is a government color reference target. When you order from MyPerfectColor, you are ordering paint matched to that reference, not an official government coating system.
The code by itself does not define chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion protection, or formal approval status. If your project has a required coating system or acceptance rule, confirm that separately before ordering.
Not always. Fed Std 595C 10070 gives you a standard color target, but an older coating may have faded, weathered, changed sheen, or picked up texture differences over time.
If you are touching up beside an aged part, the standard match may still look different from the surrounding finish. For visible repairs, a sample panel or match to the existing part can be a better choice than relying on the code alone.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 10070 is available as a MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint order, typically in spray paint and other formats for specification-driven color work.
Depending on the listing, you may also be able to choose touch-up paint, paint pens, or other available formats. Pick the format that fits how the part will be applied and how much coverage you need.
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different stages. For Fed Std 595C 10070, the actual timing depends on the product format you select and the application conditions.
Use the instructions on the specific product page and do not assume one timing schedule applies to every spray paint, touch-up paint, or other format matched to this color.
Even when the color match is correct, gloss level, matte or satin finish, film build, texture, and the substrate can all change how Fed Std 595C 10070 looks after it is applied.
If you need the final appearance to match an existing part closely, choose the finish carefully and remember that the color code alone does not control the full visual result.
