To reduce acceptance risk when a specific match is needed:

• Provide a representative sample part/panel or cite the OEM powder code including gloss/texture.
• Specify gloss in gloss units at 60 degrees (example: 30-35 GU) and the required texture (e.g., smooth, fine texture, wrinkle).
• State the acceptance basis on the PO (e.g., "Match customer-supplied sample under agreed lighting and viewing distance").
• Confirm inspection lighting and viewing conditions in advance.

Yes, this is common for touch-up and repaint, but surface prep and sheen control determine acceptance.

• Clean and decontaminate: Remove oils, silicone, and dirt with a suitable cleaner (e.g., isopropyl alcohol or mild alkaline cleaner). Rinse and dry.
• De-gloss and key the surface: Lightly scuff with 320-600 grit or a nonwoven abrasive to break the gloss and improve adhesion. Feather any damage edges. Wipe clean.
• Adhesion check: Apply a small test patch of the intended RAL 8011 product, allow full cure per its data sheet, then perform a simple tape pull. Proceed only if there is no lifting.
• Prime where needed: If you expose bare metal or plastic, use a compatible adhesion-promoting/etch/epoxy primer per substrate and product guidance.
• Sheen and texture: Expect differences between powder and liquid coatings. For dark colors like RAL 8011 (low LRV), even small gloss changes are noticeable. Select the gloss level deliberately and blend edges.
• Decide by criticality: Small, low-visibility touch-ups can proceed with standard RAL 8011. For large or inspected areas, match to the existing part or OEM powder code and specify gloss to avoid rejection.

  • Gloss requirement: specify a GU range at 60 degrees (example: 30-35 GU) rather than generic terms like "semi-gloss".
  • Texture requirement: smooth, fine texture, or wrinkle to match the part.
  • Inspection conditions: lighting and viewing distance/angle.
• Decision tip: If sheen and texture cannot be specified or verified, submit a sample of the actual part for a targeted match instead of relying on a generic RAL finish.
