RAL 8000 Green Brown Paint

Use the RAL code as a color target, not a process spec. RAL 8000 defines the hue; sheen, texture, chemistry, and application can still differ. Decide based on acceptance risk:

• Standard RAL 8000 is acceptable when: cross-material coordination is expected (powder vs liquid, plastic vs metal), the area is small or low-visibility, repairs are functional (chips, corrosion stop), or "close visual harmony" is sufficient.
• Request a sample/OEM match when: large or high-visibility surfaces are involved, there are strict inspection criteria, you must match an existing coated part, or an OEM powder code is specified.

Risk notes: a liquid touch-up that visually matches RAL 8000 may still look different next to a textured or different-gloss powder coat. If acceptance is against an existing assembly, send a sample or specify the exact OEM powder code and gloss/texture to reduce risk.

Practical step: state on the PO whether acceptance is against the RAL 8000 standard chip or against a provided part sample, and include the required gloss level and texture.

Document the target and the acceptance method to ensure repeatability:

• Target: "Color: RAL 8000 Green Brown" and specify whether to match the RAL Classic standard chip or an approved customer sample/OEM powder code.
• Finish: required gloss (e.g., 30-40 GU at 60 degrees) and texture (e.g., smooth, fine texture). Note that texture can shift appearance.
• System: coating type and process (powder or liquid), chemistry (e.g., epoxy, polyurethane), application method, substrate, primer, and target film build.
• Acceptance: define evaluation under intended lighting (e.g., 5000-6500K) and viewing distance. If using instruments, state tolerance versus the chosen reference (e.g., delta E limit) and that visual approval overrides minor instrument variance when texture differs.
• Controls: require first-article sample/drawdown for sign-off when critical, retain a control panel, record lot/batch numbers on labels, and note any special cure or recoat conditions that affect color/sheen.

Clarity example: "Match RAL 8000 standard chip; liquid polyurethane; smooth; 35 GU @60 degrees; acceptance under 5000K lighting; first-article drawdown required before production."

Field touch-ups are practical for small chips and scratches, but they rarely replicate a factory powder coat exactly.

• Color: a well-matched RAL 8000 touch-up will be close, but aging/fade on the existing part and lighting can make differences more visible.
• Sheen/texture: touch-up liquid paints dry smoother than textured powders; even with the same color, sheen/texture differences can show at certain angles.
• Scope: limit touch-ups to small, broken areas; for larger or highly visible panels, consider a sample-based match and respray to a break line for best uniformity.
• Prep and validation: clean, degloss, and feather edges; test a small area first and review under the site lighting. If acceptance is against the existing assembly (not the RAL chip), request a match to a current part sample rather than the generic RAL standard.

If the surface is critical or inspection is strict, plan for a custom match and pre-approval sample rather than relying on generic RAL touch-up.
