RAL 7045 Telegrey 1 Paint

Send a physical sample or OEM powder specification when final acceptance will be judged against an existing part or when finish details are critical. RAL 7045 defines the color target only; it does not specify sheen or texture.

• Send a sample/OEM code if: high-visibility cosmetic surfaces, large-area repaints, strict inspection criteria, known OEM powder code (e.g., brand/series/color ID), aged/weathered parts must be matched, or liquid paint must butt-match a powder-coated panel.
• A standard RAL 7045 reference is typically sufficient for: cross-material coordination where textures/sheens already differ, low-criticality repairs (chips, non-cosmetic protection), or when close visual harmony is acceptable.
• What to provide with a sample: a clean, flat piece at least 2×2 in; desired gloss (e.g., GU @60 degrees with acceptable range), texture (smooth/fine texture), application method (powder or liquid), environment (interior/exterior), and any inspection/acceptance conditions.

Providing this information reduces rework risk and aligns the coating to how it will be judged.

Expect a functional, color-appropriate repair rather than an invisible one. Powder vs. liquid differences in sheen and texture often remain visible even when the color matches RAL 7045.

• Best use: small chips, edges, hardware, or non-critical areas. For contiguous panel faces, a spot repair may "halo" due to sheen/texture changes.
• Preparation: clean/degrease, lightly scuff the repair area, and de-dust. Mask to a soft edge and use light, feathered coats.
• Sheen: select a touch-up sheen that approximates the installed finish; RAL 7045 does not define gloss. A mismatch in gloss is a common reason for rejection.
• Scope: avoid spot repairs larger than ~2×2 in on smooth, high-visibility panels; consider recoating the full panel edge-to-edge if uniform appearance is required.
• If an invisible repair is required: provide a sample of the installed part or the OEM powder spec for a custom, sheen-aligned match before field work.

Many rejections occur with RAL 7045 because sheen and texture are unspecified by the code and can change perceived color. Define finish parameters up front.

• Specify: RAL 7045 color + gloss in GU @60 degrees (with an acceptable range), texture (smooth/fine texture/orange peel), and application method (powder or liquid).
• If the target finish is unknown: measure an existing part with a gloss meter or send a sample for match; do not rely on visual estimation alone for critical work.
• Acceptance criteria: document inspection distance/lighting if they apply. For contiguous, high-visibility surfaces, align sheen and texture via sample/OEM match. For cross-material coordination or non-critical items, a standard RAL 7045 color match is usually sufficient.
• Note: mid-gray neutrals can appear to shift with gloss changes; controlling gloss reduces perceived hue differences.
