• Order by RAL 6018 (no sample) when: cross-material coordination is acceptable; touch-up of small chips; visual harmony is sufficient; no formal inspection criteria are set.
• Send a sample or specify the exact OEM powder code when: matching an existing part or batch; high-visibility or large-area repaints; strict inspection/acceptance is expected; an OEM powder color ID is specified.

Note: The RAL code defines a color target, not the coating process. If you send a sample, include the required sheen/texture and indicate whether the match should target the RAL standard or the supplied part.

Often yes. For items like housings, brackets, conduit, and accessories with inherently different textures or sheens, a standard RAL 6018 match is typically sufficient.

• Acceptable when: surfaces already differ (powder vs liquid, smooth vs textured); parts are viewed separately or at a distance; minor hue/sheen variation won't trigger rejection.
• Use caution when: parts are adjacent and inspected under controlled lighting; very tight visual alignment is required. In those cases, submit a sample of the critical part for a targeted match including sheen.

Reminder: A RAL code specifies the color target only; sheen and texture should be selected per each material's performance and process constraints.

• Color reference: "RAL Classic 6018 Yellow Green" and state the target: "match to RAL standard" or "match to supplied sample/OEM code." Do not list both.
• Finish details: required sheen (e.g., gloss, semi-gloss, matte; or 60 degrees GU if known) and any texture effects.
• Coating and process: product type/resin system, application method, substrate, and target dry film thickness.
• Acceptance criteria: verification method (visual vs reference, and/or instrument), light source/conditions, and any tolerance you will apply.
• Traceability: required lot/batch labeling on containers, retain a drawdown or panel, and record the reference used (RAL standard tile or your approved sample).

Clear documentation prevents disputes, especially since RAL defines the color target but not sheen, texture, or process.

The most common rejection cause is sheen/texture mismatch. Powder vs liquid coatings and different application parameters can make identical hues appear different.

• Risks: gloss level differences, texture/orange peel, substrate and film build effects, lighting conditions.
• Prevention: specify the required sheen (or gloss units) on the order; if matching an existing part, request a match to that part including sheen/texture; run and approve a test panel under your inspection lighting before full production.

RAL specifies the color target only. If hue must be tightly controlled and parts are inspected sidebyside, use a samplebased approval to set acceptance.
