RAL 4010 Telemagenta Paint

Use this decision path to avoid acceptance issues:

• Standard RAL 4010 Telemagenta is sufficient when:
  • Acceptance will be checked against the official RAL 4010 standard (not an installed part).
  • The work is low-criticality (small chips, functional protection) and exact sheen/texture alignment is not required.
  • You are coordinating across different materials where textures/sheens already differ.
• Request a custom or OEM-based match when:
  • Acceptance will be compared to an existing coated part or assembly (not the RAL fan deck).
  • The area is large, highly visible, or subject to strict inspection criteria.
  • A specific OEM powder code exists, or gloss/texture are specified or important.

To reduce risk, state on the PO: the acceptance reference (RAL standard vs submitted sample), gloss range, any texture requirement, film type (powder/liquid), and the light source/distance for visual inspection. Evaluate samples under actual site lighting for RAL 4010 Telemagenta.

• Touch-up pen: hairline scratches and chips under ~1 mm. Fast, controlled application; minimal masking.
• Brush bottle: chips ~1-6 mm, fastener edges, pinholes. Apply thin coats; allow flash time between passes.
• Aerosol/spray: areas larger than a few square inches or when blending is needed. Use multiple light coats with proper surface prep and masking.

Notes for powder-coated parts in RAL 4010 Telemagenta:

• Liquid touch-ups (pen/brush/spray) will be smoother than typical powder orange peel and may differ in sheen. This is usually acceptable for small, low-criticality repairs but will be visible on cosmetic surfaces.
• If gloss/texture alignment matters or the repair spans a large area, consider repainting the part/panel or request a match based on the actual part or OEM powder code.
• Prep: clean, degloss/scuff as needed, spot-prime bare metal, and allow full cure before service.

The RAL 4010 code defines the color target, not the coating process. Differences arise because:

• Texture: powder often has orange peel; liquid touch-ups are usually smoother.
• Gloss: even at the same color, gloss level changes perceived color and visibility of defects.
• Film build/application: application methods affect color depth and flop on curved or ribbed parts.
• Lighting: the same RAL 4010 Telemagenta can shift visually under different site lighting; evaluate where the part will be used.

How to manage this:

• If acceptance is against the RAL standard, a standard RAL 4010 in liquid is appropriate-expect sheen/texture differences.
• If acceptance is against an existing powder-coated part, specify gloss/texture requirements and provide an OEM powder code or a clean part for sample-based matching.
• For highly visible areas, keep the technology consistent across adjacent parts (all powder or all liquid) or submit a sample for approval before full production.
• Document inspection conditions on the PO (reference, gloss, texture, light source/distance) to avoid disputes.

However, keep in mind that our version of RAL4010 Telemagenta is based on the color swatch contained in the official RAL color book. While we can provide RAL4010 Telemagenta in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another brand.
