• You must match an existing coated part or installation (color + sheen/texture).
• The surface is high-visibility or a large-area repaint where small differences will be noticed.
• There are strict inspection or contractual acceptance requirements.
• A known OEM or powder coating code exists and must be matched.
• Gloss level or texture is unknown but matters to acceptance.

Ordering by the RAL code (standard match) is typically sufficient when:

• Cross-material coordination is needed and textures/sheens already differ (e.g., plastic, metal, touch-up).
• Repairs are low-criticality (small chips, functional protection).
• Close visual harmony is sufficient and minor sheen/texture differences are acceptable.

If sending a sample or requesting a custom match, include:

• A representative flat area (~50×50 mm / 2×2 in minimum), clearly marked target face.
• Desired sheen (60 degrees gloss value if known) and texture requirements.
• Coating process (powder or liquid), substrate, and intended application method.
• Any known OEM/powder brand & code and the acceptance lighting conditions.

Color appearance of RAL 4003 Heather Violet can shift with lighting due to metamerism-different light sources (daylight, fluorescent, LED) emphasize different parts of the spectrum. Cross-material and sheen differences can amplify this effect.

To control acceptance risk:

• Agree on the inspection light source(s) before ordering (e.g., site lighting, daylight D65, or a specified LED CCT).
• Document viewing conditions: distance, angle, and whether parts are compared side-by-side or to the RAL standard reference.
• Evaluate samples and production parts under the same lighting that will be used for inspection. A light booth helps for critical work.
• If acceptance is to an existing part, provide that part as the target and specify the inspection lighting so the match is optimized for that condition.

Without an agreed lighting condition, parts that match under one light may be rejected under another.

RAL 4003 Heather Violet defines color only. Sheen and texture are separate and can change perceived color. Specify sheen based on how acceptance will be judged.

Selection guidance:

• Match to existing finish: Measure the existing 60 degrees gloss if possible, or send a part for match. Ordering by code without gloss info risks rejection.
• High-visibility or large areas: Specify a target gloss range or provide a sample. Powder vs. liquid can differ in texture even at the same gloss.
• Low-criticality touch-up: If gloss is unknown and minor variation is acceptable, a satin/semi-gloss often blends better than extreme matte or high gloss.

Typical 60 degrees gloss bands (for reference): matte ~10-20, satin ~30-50, semi-gloss ~55-70, gloss ~75+. State your required band with the order.

Note: If acceptance is to the RAL standard reference (not an existing part), define both the color reference and the allowed gloss range to avoid disputes.
