A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26622 reads as a light, low-chroma beige-gray with a faint yellow-green or olive undertone. It is a quiet, muted color rather than a clean bright neutral, and the midrange LRV means it can still read noticeably light on smooth surfaces.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference can be used on equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, cabinet doors, vent covers, cart frames, switch plates, hardware, and fabricated parts where a standard-referenced finish is needed. It also fits touch-up work on training aids, mock-ups, and maintenance components when the goal is to stay consistent with a specified Fed Std 595C target.
Because this is a light, muted shade, substrate contrast and surface prep can affect the final read. Dark repairs, sanding marks, or uneven primer may show through more readily than with a deeper color, and gloss level can shift the apparent warmth and grayness. On nearby aged coatings, small differences in sheen or weathering can be noticeable even when the code match is correct.
A Fed Std 595C code identifies a color reference, not an official coating system or a match to an aged in-service part. If the target is an existing fielded component or an acceptance-sensitive repair, comparing against the actual part or a project sample can be more reliable than using the standard chip alone.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26622 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself choose the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or approval status for your project.
When you order MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 26622, use the color code as the color target and select the product format and coating system based on the actual job requirements.
Not always. A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 26622 is the reference color target, but an in-service coating can look different because of fade, weathering, gloss loss, texture change, film build, or a different original coating system.
If you are repairing a visible area next to an older finish, the standard match may be correct on paper but still look different on the part. In that case, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing surface may be the better choice.
Start with the environment, not just the color code. Fed Std 595C 26622 only defines the color reference, so you still need to choose a product that fits the substrate and the service conditions.
For example, interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, and chemical exposure may call for different product types or application methods. MyPerfectColor can supply a custom-matched paint to Fed Std 595C 26622 in formats such as spray paint or touch-up paint, but the right format depends on how and where the part will be used.
Yes. Even if the color match is correct, the final appearance of Fed Std 595C 26622 can change with gloss level, matte or satin finish, texture, and film build.
That is why the color code is only part of the result. If the surrounding part has a specific sheen or texture, you should account for that when selecting the product and planning the application.
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different stages. For Fed Std 595C 26622, the correct timing depends on the product format you order and how you apply it.
Plan your work from the product directions, not from the color code alone. If the part needs multiple coats or handling soon after painting, confirm the recoat window and handling time before you start so the finish can cure properly.
