A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36622 reads as a light, muted neutral with a soft warm-gray cast and a faint yellow-green undertone. It is low in chroma, so it looks quiet rather than bright, and its moderate lightness keeps it from reading as either stark white or a deep tan.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to this government color reference is commonly used where a part needs to visually align with a specified standard rather than an older, weathered finish. It can be a practical match for touch-up or repaint work on panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, support hardware, cabinet faces, vents, switch covers, and other fabricated components that were called out by code.
Because the color is fairly light and muted, coverage is usually straightforward, but the final look still depends on substrate color, surface texture, and film build. Darker primers, rough surfaces, or uneven repairs can show through more readily in a color this light, and gloss level can make the same match read lighter or darker once applied.
For acceptance-sensitive work, remember that a code match is not the same as matching an aged in-service coating or a project-specific approved finish. If the surrounding part has faded, picked up gloss, or changed with wear, a standard-reference match may still look different in place even when the formula is correct.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 36622 is a government color reference target only. It tells you which color to order, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or any project approval requirements.
For this product, MyPerfectColor supplies paint matched to Fed Std 595C 36622. If your job needs a specific coating system or formal acceptance, confirm those requirements separately before ordering.
Not always. Even if Fed Std 595C 36622 is the correct code, an older coating can look different because of fade, weathering, sheen change, texture, film build, or prior repainting.
For touch-up beside an existing finish, a standard color match may be close enough for some maintenance work, but a full-part repaint or an existing-part match can be the better choice when the repair area is highly visible.
Not always. A Fed Std 595C 36622 color match can satisfy the color reference, but acceptance may also depend on an approval panel, an existing-part match, or a project-specific coating requirement.
If the procurement package, drawing, or engineering authority calls for a sample, panel, or match to the installed part, use that requirement instead of relying on the code alone.
Start by cleaning and degreasing the surface, then scuff it enough to promote adhesion. If there is rust, corrosion, or a failing coating, that needs to be corrected before applying Fed Std 595C 36622.
Primer choice depends on the substrate and the condition of the existing finish, so test on the actual part first when possible. For mixed substrates or repaints, confirm compatibility before doing the full job.
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different stages. The correct timing for Fed Std 595C 36622 depends on the product format you order, such as spray paint or touch-up paint.
Use the product directions for the exact recoat window and handling guidance, and do not assume a standard color code tells you when the coating is ready. If the part will be put back into service quickly, plan the application schedule around the full cure time, not just the dry-to-touch stage.
