A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24491 reads as a muted, medium-light green with a clear gray cast and a slight yellow bias. The low chroma keeps it subdued rather than vivid, so it looks more like a practical equipment green than a bright signal color.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched spray paint in this color can be used on panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, switch covers, vents, racks, railings, and fabricated parts when the target is a government color standard reference. It also works for maintenance accessories, color-coded hardware, mock-ups, and replacement pieces that need to stay aligned with the specified code.
Because the color is relatively muted, it usually covers more evenly than a high-chroma green, but finish and substrate still affect the result. Primer color, surface texture, and film build can change the apparent depth, and touch-up next to older coatings may still show a difference in gloss or age even when the code match is close. For acceptance-sensitive work, match the project requirement or existing sample rather than relying on the code alone.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24491 is a government color reference target, not a complete coating specification. When you order this color from MyPerfectColor, you are getting paint matched to the selected Fed Std 595C reference, not an official government-issued coating system.
The code identifies the color only. You still need to choose the right product format, sheen, surface prep, and coating system for your project.
It can be a close reference match, but a weathered or aged part may not look the same as the standard color chip. Fade, gloss change, texture, prior coatings, and exposure history can all shift how Fed Std 595C 24491 appears on the surface.
If you need the repair to blend into an existing in-service finish, a standard-code match may not be enough. In that case, matching the existing part or approving a sample panel is often the safer path.
No. Fed Std 595C 24491 tells you the target color, but it does not decide whether the best product is spray paint, touch-up paint, or another coating type. It also does not tell you whether the finish should handle outdoor exposure, abrasion, chemicals, or a specific substrate.
Choose the product based on the service environment and the coating requirements of the part, then select the Fed Std 595C 24491 match in the format that fits the job.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24491 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, carts, fixtures, training aids, mock-ups, and color-coded hardware.
It is a practical choice when a drawing, maintenance manual, procurement package, or prototype calls for a specific government color reference and you need MyPerfectColor paint matched to that reference.
If your project is acceptance-critical, inspection-critical, or controlled by an engineering authority, the code alone may not be enough. In those cases, Fed Std 595C 24491 may need to be checked against a sample panel, an existing part, or a project-specific approval process.
This matters most when the surrounding coating is weathered, chemically exposed, or visually sensitive. A standard-reference match is useful, but it does not replace required project approvals.
MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use.
