A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24518 reads as a light, muted green with a gray cast and a slight yellow bias. It is low in chroma, so the color looks restrained rather than vivid, and the lighter value gives it a subdued, practical appearance.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference can be used on maintenance and fabrication parts such as panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, control boxes, carts, hardware, and support fixtures. It is also useful for color-coded accessories, training pieces, mock-ups, and fabricated components that need to stay aligned to the specified reference across metal, plastic, or previously coated surfaces.
Because this is a lighter shade, dark substrates, patch repairs, and uneven filler areas can show through more easily than they would under a deeper color. Finish, texture, and film build can also affect how it reads after application; a glossier finish may make the green appear cleaner, while a flatter finish can push it more gray. On touch-up work beside an older coating, a correct code match can still look different if the existing paint has aged, faded, or changed sheen.
Fed Standard 595C and AMS-STD-595 codes define the color target, not the full coating system or approval status. This is MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected reference, which is useful when the specification calls for the code itself rather than a match to an aged in-service finish.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
Fed Std 595C 24518 identifies the color reference target only. It does not, by itself, choose the coating chemistry, gloss level, primer, corrosion protection, surface preparation, or approval status for your project.
When you order from MyPerfectColor, you are selecting paint matched to Fed Std 595C 24518. If your job also has requirements for substrate, durability, or compliance, those need to be confirmed separately before purchase.
Not always. A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24518 is the standard reference, but an older coating may have faded, weathered, changed sheen, or built up texture over time. Even a correct match can look different next to an aged surface.
If the repair is highly visible or acceptance-critical, a sample panel or a match to the existing part may be a better choice than relying on the standard code alone. For smaller touch-ups, a standard-reference match may still be appropriate if close visual alignment is acceptable.
The color code does not determine whether the coating is right for the service environment. Fed Std 595C 24518 only defines the color target, while your project still needs the right product type for interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemical contact, and the substrate being coated.
Before ordering, make sure the selected MyPerfectColor product format and coating type fit the job requirements. A color match to Fed Std 595C 24518 is useful only if the coating system also suits the part and environment.
Clean the surface first, remove oil or grease, and scuff glossy areas so the new coating can bond properly. On bare metal, check for rust or corrosion before painting, and use a primer if the substrate or product system calls for it.
If you are painting over an existing coating, test the MyPerfectColor match of Fed Std 595C 24518 on the actual part or on a small hidden area before doing the full job. Mixed substrates and old coatings can change how the color and finish look after application.
Confirm the exact color code, the product format you need, the finish level, and the quantity before you place the order. A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 24518 is a government color reference, but the final result also depends on the paint type and how it is applied.
Custom color matches are made to order, so it is important to review the details carefully before checkout. If the project has special approval or match requirements, verify them first so you do not order the wrong product.
