A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 17925 reads as a very light, muted off-white with a subtle green-yellow cast. It has low chroma and a soft, restrained appearance rather than a bright clean white.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to this Fed Standard 595C reference is suited to spray-painted panels, equipment housings, enclosures, brackets, switch covers, vent grilles, cabinet doors, and similar fabricated parts. It is a practical option for specification-driven work, not an official government coating system.
Because the color is so light, the substrate can affect the result more than it would with a deeper shade. Darker bases, uneven prep, or thin film build may show through, and sheen differences can shift how warm or neutral the color appears after application.
For maintenance work, matching the standard reference is not the same as matching an aged in-service coating. Weathering, sun exposure, and prior refinishing can change an existing part enough that the code alone may not fully represent the surrounding finish.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 17925 is a color reference target, not a complete coating specification. For this color, MyPerfectColor supplies custom-matched paint made to match the selected government color reference, but you still need to choose the product chemistry, gloss, surface prep, and any project-specific approval requirements separately. If the job is compliance-sensitive, confirm the coating system requirements before ordering.
Not always. A correct match to Fed Std 595C 17925 can still look different beside an aged coating because weathering, fade, sheen change, texture, and prior paint differences affect the final appearance. If the repair is next to an existing finish that matters visually, a sample panel, test spot, or a match to the existing part may be the safer choice than relying on the standard code alone.
The code defines the color target, but gloss level, matte or satin finish, texture, and film build can change how Fed Std 595C 17925 reads after application. A color that is matched correctly in the lab can still appear different once it is sprayed, brushed, or applied over a particular substrate. If appearance consistency matters, choose the finish that matches the project and test the applied result before committing to the full job.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 17925 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, enclosures, housings, mock-ups, training pieces, and fabricated components. For those jobs, order MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint made to match the selected government color reference in the format that fits your application, such as spray paint or touch-up paint. If the part is part of a controlled build or bid package, confirm whether the specification calls for the standard code only or a project-specific sample match.
No. Fed Std 595C 17925 identifies the color target, but the service environment should drive the product choice. Interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemical contact, and the substrate all affect which MyPerfectColor product format is the best fit. Select the coating type based on the environment first, then use the Fed Std 595C 17925 match for the color requirement.
