A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 10049 is a very dark, low-reflectance red-brown with a warm undertone. It reads close to brown at first glance, with a subdued red cast that keeps it from looking flat black or neutral gray.

MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to this selected Fed Standard 595C reference can be used for specification-driven spray work on brackets, panels, enclosures, housings, switch covers, railings, fabricated hardware, and other small parts that need to follow the same color target across metal, plastic, or composite substrates.

Because the color is so dark and only moderately chromatic, surface condition matters. Sanding scratches, texture, and sheen differences can show more clearly than they would in a lighter color, and coverage may depend more on even film build than on hiding the base color. On touch-up work, an aged or weathered surrounding finish can still look different from a fresh match if gloss or exposure has changed.

The Fed Std 595C code defines the color reference, but it does not by itself define coating chemistry, gloss level, or approval status. For acceptance-sensitive work, the standard target and the existing part may need to be considered separately if the in-service coating has faded, chalked, or changed in finish.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ Fed Std 595C 10049 *

What does Fed Std 595C 10049 mean for ordering MyPerfectColor paint, and what does it not define?

A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 10049 is a government color reference target. It tells MyPerfectColor what color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion system, or any formal approval status. If your project needs a specific finish or coating system, choose that separately from the color code.

Will MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 10049 blend with an older painted surface on an in-service part?

Not always. Even if the color code is correct, an older coating can look different because of fade, weathering, sheen changes, texture, film build, or prior repairs. If you are touching up beside an existing finish, a standard-code match may be good enough for some jobs, but a match to the existing part or a full-part repaint can be the safer choice when appearance is critical.

How should I choose MyPerfectColor paint for Fed Std 595C 10049 based on the service environment?

Use the service environment to choose the product, not the color code alone. Fed Std 595C 10049 only identifies the color reference. If the part will be inside, outside, exposed to abrasion, or exposed to chemicals, select a product format and coating type that fit those conditions and the substrate you are coating.

What product formats can I order for Fed Std 595C 10049 from MyPerfectColor?

MyPerfectColor can supply a custom-matched paint for Fed Std 595C 10049 in spray paint and other formats where offered for the color. The Fed Std 595C code is the reference target, while the product format is chosen separately based on how you plan to apply the paint and what the part requires.

What should I know about dry time and recoating when using MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 10049?

Dry time, recoat timing, and full cure are different milestones, and they depend on the specific product format you order. For Fed Std 595C 10049, plan your work around the instructions for the selected spray paint, touch-up paint, or other format rather than assuming the color code sets the timing. If the part is acceptance-sensitive, allow enough time for the coating to reach the condition needed for inspection or handling.
